1H0431G
Location: Hillsboro
Schedule: Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, & Friday 2:30 - 6:30, two weekends a month around 9am - 4pm.
Summer (starting in early June): Monday – Friday 10am - 4pm, two weekends a month around 9am – 4pm
Schedule is flexible on exact days/times out of the weekdays for both School and Summertime.
Description:
Family is looking for a kind and patient DSP to support their 9-year-old daughter. She likes playing outside, swimming, loves animals, reading, and music, and is into the magic school bus. She is less resistant to information and requests from those who are softer spoken. A DSP who can be flexible to her routine, support emotional regulation, practice and build social skills, safety awareness and work toward reducing stress during transitions. Who is comfortable with behavioral support in both the community and in their home.
Other supports a DSP can provide include communication and expressing herself. She is semi-verbal and communication can be a barrier for her to express her emotions. DSP can support with de-escalating her frustration. Client is gluten free and struggles with finding food and drinks she likes. Additionally, she prefers to wear pants, she is more vulnerable to overheating. DSP can support by encouraging and monitoring food and water intake.
Family is LGBTQ+ household, they have one small dog and two other children in the home, client requires extra attention, and supervision. She will occasionally try to wander off from supervised areas and is still toilet training. Family wants to do more community activities over the summer. They are hoping to find a DSP who would be able to ride along with them to support her in the car and during outings in the community, at least two weekends out of the month.
Direct Support Professional (DSP) / In Home Care Giver Responsibilities and Duties:
This role involves caring for a client on an individual basis in their home environment as well as taking them out into the community to learn skills and socialize. This role varies depending on the client but can involve teaching skills of independent living such as self-care, behavior management, budgeting, cooking, shopping and cleaning. Family Relief Resources is not a physical facility -100% of activities happen in the community or a client’s home.
The day-to-day duties of the DSP role requires:
Smart Phone
- The state requires all client visits to be tracked with GPS location verification at clock in/out. You will need a smart phone to access the timekeeping application once you arrive at the client’s location.
Driving
- Have a valid license and car with current insurance. Some clients will need transportation.
Documenting
- Must create and enter specific progress notes after each shift. Also, a progress report is due once per quarter.
Scheduling
- Each DSP has a set schedule and must be able to maintain this with clients.
Reliability
- Because Family Relief Resources is not a facility, we need reliable employees who can work independently, show up for their shifts, and be excellent communicators with their client’s families and with our agency.
Patient, Kind, and Positive
- Helping those with disabilities requires a person who can be patient in all situations, show kindness, and have a positive attitude toward the client and other members of the client’s family even in challenging situations.
Flexibility
- Being able to adjust to different types of personalities and disabilities from day to day.
