ABOUT US Camp Harbor View changes lives and transforms Boston’s communities by exposing underserved youth to the possibilities of a future they may have never envisioned. At Camp Harbor View, kids can be kids. At each of the five program areas (aquatics, leadership, sports, knowledge is power, and art) campers engage in quality programming and learn the skills they need to succeed outside of camp. Our core values of fun, respect, responsibility, character, courage, and community drive the camp experience and create a safe, fun environment for campers to develop as young leaders. Camp Harbor View staff are responsible for fostering that environment and have the great privilege to model our values for our campers. DIVERSITY, EQUITY, AND INCLUSION STATEMENT Camp Harbor View’s work is focused on providing opportunity to some of Boston's most historically marginalized communities. We believe that by working together with the families in our program we will make progress in overcoming many of the barriers of systemic inequity and advancing educational and economic parity. We strive to build a staff and board that is reflective of the communities that we serve. ROLE Title/ Position: Group Leader Reports to: Team Leader Location: Camp Harbor View, Long Island, Boston MA (ferry transportation provided) Hours: Seasonal, Full-Time; June 18 th - August 22 nd ; 8:15 am to 4:45 pm RESPONSIBILITIES Oversee the safety of a group of middle school-aged campers, following the set schedule to ensure timely transitions and regularly taking attendance to ensure all campers are accounted for; Build genuine, caring relationships with campers and support them as they build connections with their peers, ensuring appropriate boundaries are maintained ; Assist program staff with the delivery of developmentally appropriate activities , encouraging active participation and engagement through role modeling and positive behavior guidance; Create and implement developmentally appropriate curriculum for a club that campers will choose to participate in; Identify campers who may need additional support, informing Team Leaders and referring campers to the appropriate team ; Maintain cleanliness of all camp spaces, encouraging campers to claim responsibility for their belongings and to have pride in the camp’s facilities; Coach and mentor high school-aged youth in the Leader in Training (LIT) program, regularly communicating with the Team Leaders and LIT staff regarding the LIT’s job performance; Support the development and growth of a positive camp culture by providing additional support to campers and colleagues as needed and at community-wide events, including, but not limited to, performances, lunch, and the ferry; and Other duties that support the Camp Harbor View community as specified by the Team Leaders and year-round leadership; (Floater position) Support the needs of a lighthouse, including, but not limited to, coverage of groups during staff breaks or absences, support group leaders who need additional assistance, and support team leaders with all duties related to managing the lighthouse; (Floater position) Support the needs of a program area in the event of a staff absence that impacts program delivery, including, but not limited to, implementation of curriculum. QUALIFICATIONS 18+ years of age or completion of a high school diploma or its equivalent ; At least 4 weeks (1 month) experience working with youth; Interest in youth development principles; Strong interpersonal and communication skills; Ability to work with youth and families from a variety of backgrounds; Ability to work in a fast-paced environment; Ability to be adaptable in a quickly changing environment; Ability to accept constructive feedback and coaching; and Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
