    "description": "<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Morrison Center </span>is seeking a <span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Special Education Teacher </span>for a Special Purpose Private School, in Scarborough Maine.  Full-Time</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Morrison Center’s Special Purpose Private School</span> provides a trauma-informed, holistic educational experience for students with autism, physical disabilities, cognitive delays, and behavioral challenges. Our team-based model emphasizes experiential learning, functional life skills, and unconditional positive regard.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Requirements of the Special Education Teacher</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Minimum of a bachelor’s degree with appropriate and valid Special Education certification as required by the State Department of Education.</li>\n<li>Assists with bus duty at the beginning and end of program session.</li>\n<li><span>CPR and First Aid Certificates</span></li>\n<li><span>Safety Management training</span></li>\n<li>Experience with Applied Behavior Analysis methodology preferred</li>\n<li>Experience in a functional life skills setting and/or an SPPS preferred</li>\n<li>Adheres to state expectations and requirements for prompt arrival at work and reliable presence on the job, including return from scheduled/unscheduled breaks and a clear understanding of sick leave and tardiness policies.</li>\n<li>Participates in the development of monthly/yearly calendar.</li>\n<li>Assists in ancillary team tasks such as cleaning and preparing classroom materials.</li>\n<li>Participates in weekly staff meetings for planning, progress reporting and consulting with other team members.<br><span>Excellent communication, teamwork, and documentation skills</span><br><span>Ability to contribute positively to a multidisciplinary team and school community.</span></li>\n</ul>\n<p><span> </span></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Benefits of the Job: </span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><br><span>Pay: commensurate with experience</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Up to 8-weeks off per year! </span></li>\n<li>64 Hours of Earned Time Off provided for use every calendar year</li>\n<li>Access to several School Breaks and Holidays including:</li>\n<li>Winter Break</li>\n<li>February Break</li>\n<li>April Break</li>\n<li>Independence Week</li>\n<li>August/September break</li>\n<li>PLUS 14 Holidays, including MLK Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day to name a few</li>\n</ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Traditional Benefits: </span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>403(b) Retirement Plan with Employer Contributions</li>\n<li>Medical, Dental, Vision</li>\n<li>Short Term/Long Term Disability</li>\n<li>Voluntary Life and AD&amp;D Insurance</li>\n<li>Year-round employment</li>\n<li>Full-time daytime schedule</li>\n</ul>\n<p><span> </span> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Responsibilities of the Special Education Teacher</span></p>\n<ul>\n<li>Plans and executes daily lesson plans in accordance with program curriculum and each student’s Individual Education Program.</li>\n<li>Participates in the development of each student’s Individual Education Program.</li>\n<li>Evaluates the cognitive and developmental levels of each student according to IEP schedule.</li>\n<li>Function as a member of the multi-disciplinary team and facilitates classroom schedule on a daily basis.</li>\n<li>Supervises and coordinates the day-to-day schedules of Ed Techs as well as student interns or volunteers.</li>\n<li>Attends to the general health and welfare of each student as needed, specifically:\n<ul>\n<li>Participates in therapeutic feeding programs.</li>\n<li>Dispenses authorized medication under guidance of agency nurse.</li>\n<li>Cares for student’s ADL needs, including personal care.</li>\n</ul>\n</li>\n<li>Maintains written and/or phone contact with parents as needed; this can be on a daily basis recorded in the student’s notebook or verbal reports at the end of the program day.</li>\n<li>Seeks expertise of appropriate team member when issues arise.</li>\n<li>Assists with bus duty at the beginning and end of program session.</li>\n<li>Implements PT, OT and ST programs in the classroom under the guidance of the respective therapist(s).</li>\n<li>Contributes to a positive work environment in a way that sustains or enhances the Center’s positive image and reputation for service.</li>\n<li>Accepts management/supervisory directives, adjusts promptly and calmly to new situations and performs effectively under stressful conditions.</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Morrison Center</span> is a private, non-profit organization whose mission is to provide comprehensive, individualized support services to children and adults with developmental disabilities.  Morrison Center is committed to empowering individuals with disabilities to achieve maximum personal growth and independence.
