We are an equal opportunity employer including veterans and people with disabilities.<br><br><strong>A Brief Overview</strong><br>Under the general supervision of the clinical director (M.D., D.O., or PhD) or designee to provide comprehensive evaluation and treatment of sleep disorders. Provides direct patient care in the Sleep Disorders Lab performing sleep studies and scoring of sleep studies and involvement is all sleep related clinics. Provides appropriate respiratory care specific to the pediatric population in accordance with hospital and sleep lab policy/procedures. Provides communication to physicians as appropriate based on findings of sleep study. This may involve polysomnography, diagnostic and therapeutic services, patient care and education, and sleep medicine clinics.<br><br><strong>Essential Functions</strong></p><ul><li>Gather and Analyze Patient Information • Collect, analyze, and integrate patient information in order to identify and meet the patient-specific needs (physical/mental limitations, current emotional/physiological status regarding the testing procedure, pertinent medical/social history), and to determine final testing parameters/procedures in conjunction with the ordering physician or clinical director and laboratory protocols. • Implements/prepares patient/caregiver education per plan of care. • Communicates education needs to patient/caregiver/staff at an understandable level and in a timely manner. • Documentation is complete, accurate and done in a timely manner. Follow up is completed to ensure results are obtained and relayed to parents/patients as appropriate. • Accurate information is obtained upfront to ensure proper care and billing of patient for services performed. • Treatments or procedures performed are documented in patient’s medical record with accuracy and timeliness. • Explain pre-testing, testing, and post-testing procedures to the patient and/or parent.</li><li>Testing Preparation Procedures • Prepare and calibrate equipment required for testing to determine proper functioning and make adjustments if necessary. • Apply electrodes and sensors according to accepted published standards. • Perform appropriate physiologic calibrations to ensure proper signals and make adjustments if necessary. • Perform positive airway pressure (PAP) mask fitting.</li><li>Polysomnographic Procedures • Ability to perform sleep studies on two patients on any given night according to accepted published standards. • Demonstrates knowledge of appropriate times to communicate with physician for direction on patient care issues. • Follow procedural protocols [such as Multiple Sleep Latency Test (MSLT), Maintenance of Wakefulness Test (MWT), parasomnia studies, PAP, ventilator titration, oxygen titration etc. to ensure collection of appropriate data. • Follow “lights out” procedures to establish and document baseline values (such as body position, oxyhemoglobin saturation, respiratory and heart rates, etc.). • Perform Polysomnographic data acquisition while monitoring study-tracing quality to ensure signals are artifact-free and make adjustments, if necessary. • Document routine observations including sleep stages and clinical events, changes in procedure, and significant events in order to facilitate scoring and interpretation of polysomnographic results. • Implement appropriate interventions (including actions necessary for patient safety and therapeutic intervention such as continuous and bi-level positive airway pressure, oxygen administration, etc). • Follow “lights on” procedures to verify integrity of collected data and complete the data collection process (repeats the physiological and instrument calibrations and instructs the patient on completing questionnaires, etc.). • Demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to recognize and provide age specific care in the treatment, assessment, and education of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, and adult patients. • Oversees and performs difficult and unusual procedures and therapeutic interventions.</li><li>Polysomnographic Record Scoring • Score sleep/wake stages by applying professionally accepted guidelines. • Score clinical events (such as respiratory events, cardiac events, limb movements, arousals etc.) according to center specific protocols. • Generate accurate reports by tabulating sleep/wake and clinical event data. • Completes monthly Inter-Scorer Reliability records through the American Academy of Sleep Medicine</li><li>Service Management and Professional Issues • Knowledge of and practices risk management and safety precautions (i.e. trach sizes). • Charges are entered accurately and within identified time line. • Comply with applicable laws, regulations, guidelines and standards regarding safety and infection control issues. • Perform routine and complex equipment care and maintenance. • Evaluate sleep study related equipment and inventory. • Respond to study/participant’s procedural-related inquiries by providing appropriate information. • Demonstrate the ability to analyze complex situations and apply policy.</li><li>Regular attendance at work is an essential function of the job.</li><li>Perform physical requirements as described in the Physical Requirements section</li></ul><p><br><strong>Education Qualifications</strong></p><ul><li>Graduate of an accredited AMA approved school of Respiratory Care accredited by the National Board of Respiratory Care Required</li></ul><p><strong>Experience Qualifications</strong></p><ul><li>Experience in Pulmonary or Sleep Medicine Preferred and</li><li>Pediatric experience Preferred</li></ul><p><strong>Skills and Abilities</strong></p><ul><li>Ability to work independently and demonstrates good problem-solving skills during the sleep study.</li><li>Demonstrate effective written and spoken communication skills.</li><li>Demonstrate appropriate social skills.</li><li>Comply with the Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologists Standards of Conduct.</li></ul><p><strong>Licenses and Certifications</strong></p><ul><li>CRT - Certified Respiratory Therapist Required or</li><li>RRT - Registered Respiratory Therapist Required and</li><li>Certification as a Polysomnography Technologist Preferred and</li><li>Current and valid Basic Life Support (BLS) through the American Heart Association Required and</li><li>Current and valid RRT National Registry license in the state of Nebraska within 1 Year Required and</li><li>Must be registered in Sleep Technology by The American Board of Sleep Medicine (ABSM), The National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC), The Board of Registered Polysomnographic Technologist (BPRT) or an equivalent examination accepted by The Academy of Sleep Medicine (AASM) required within 24 months of hire.
