Description

Under close supervision, be responsible for maintaining the operation of the Company’s electrical system and support of the interconnected system. This is accomplished, in part, by matching generation with obligations and operating the transmission system in a safe, efficient and reliable manner, in keeping with federal and reliability organization mandates. Shall acquire and maintain NERC Certified Reliability Coordinator, PJM Certified Generation, and PJM Certified Transmission certifications. Expected to align personal goals w/ the Mission, Vision, and Values of OVEC/IKEC. Under supervision: Complete the training required to obtain NERC certification. Assist in implementing real-time actions during normal and emergency conditions that ensure the stable and reliable operation of the bulk electric system in compliance with NERC Reliability Standards without approval from higher level personnel within the individual’s Operating Authority. Assist in the direct, timely and appropriate real-time actions, up to and including shedding firm load to prevent or alleviate System Operating Limit (SOL) and Interconnected Reliability Operating Limit (IROL) violations. Receive direction from the Reliability Coordinator and assist in implementing those directions to the extent possible without violating safety, equipment, statutory, or regulatory requirements within 30 minutes. Assist in providing timely information to the Reliability Coordinator concerning any operating conditions which may adversely impact the reliability of the bulk electric system. Receive, record, and maintain logs of normal and emergency operating conditions. Calculate transmission line losses due to interchange transactions in accordance with the Company’s Open Access Transmission Tariff. Monitor and assist upon requests for the use of our transmission facilities in accordance with the Company’s Open Access Transmission Tariff. Monitor and assist upon transaction tags submitted in conjunction with power transactions to which we are a party. Analyze requests requiring equipment outages or generation changes for their effect on normal operation. Maintain records of system conditions such as position of disconnect switches, breaker status and any other type of disconnecting device. Assist in preparing switching orders for removal of lines and equipment from service. Authorize placing of Clearance Permit Tags on switches. Place high voltage circuit breakers in non-automatic position and lock out switching equipment. Direct the restoration of equipment to normal operation upon completion of work. Coordinate all switching with affected interconnected systems. Assist in the action to be taken for restoration of Company facilities if interruptions occur. Coordinate all efforts with affected interconnected systems. Prepare daily reports of faults, abnormal outages of equipment and maintenance and test work. Prepare daily summaries of reserve and inadvertent and demands as required, including the requirements of the NERC and Regional Reliability organizations. Keep informed of the latest practices and procedures with regard to operations coordination and consistently apply these to insure efficiency and economy in the operation of the department. Investigate causes of complaint and assist when necessary. Perform duties in accordance with all applicable federal and state safety laws and regulations, and all applicable company safety rules and operating procedures; when supervising others, assure that safe work practices are followed and conduct safety meetings; make suggestions for the improvement of the safety program and encourage others to do so. Carry out within the assigned area of responsibility the Company’s program of Equal Employment Opportunity including its Affirmative Action obligations. Responsible for knowing and complying with the laws and Code of Business Conduct related to the performance of the aforementioned duties. Associate’s degree in electrical, electro-mechanical, or electronic engineering technology or related discipline with one year or more of work experience a plus. Familiarity with basic computer usage, especially Microsoft Windows and Office. Requires commitment to acquiring NERC Certified Reliability Coordinator, PJM Certified Generation, and PJM Certified Transmission certifications.
