How will you make a difference?
Wabtec is seeking a Product Safety & Compliance Engineer III to serve as a technical authority for regulatory compliance and product safety within the US transit bus market. This role ensures products meet applicable FMVSS/CMVSS, ADA vehicle accessibility, FTA-funded procurement, and APTA requirements while partnering cross‑functionally to embed compliance early in design. This is a senior individual contributor role with strong influence across engineering, quality, suppliers, and customers.
What do we want to know about you?
· Bachelor’s degree in engineering (Mechanical, Electrical, Systems, or similar).
· 7+ years’ experience in product safety, compliance, or regulated vehicle engineering.
· Hands-on experience with FMVSS/CMVSS application
· Working knowledge of ADA vehicle accessibility requirements
· Strong technical documentation and cross‑functional leadership skills
What will your typical day look like?
· Own compliance assessments, interpretation and application of FMVSS (49 CFR Part 571) and CMVSS.
· Lead ADA accessibility compliance (49 CFR Parts 37 & 38) for transit bus products.
· Support FTA-funded bus procurements and customer compliance requirements.
· Define verification strategies and approve test plans and compliance evidence.
· Partner with engineering and quality teams to manage safety and compliance risk.
· Interface with customers, suppliers, test labs, as well as regulators and legal counsel as needed as compliance subject matter experts.
What about the physical demands of the job?
· The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 20 pounds.
· Specific vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to reach hands and arms and talk or hear.
· The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
You may also be asked to perform other duties outside of your function or trade, for which adequate training will be provided if necessary.
