At Irving Shipbuilding, we’re proud to build some of the most advanced naval vessels in Canada - right here at home. We’re currently seeking an experienced Team Lead, Electrical Engineering to play a key leadership role on the Arctic Offshore Patrol Ship (AOPS) and River Class Destroyer (RCD) Programs.
This is an exciting opportunity to lead and influence the design and delivery of complex electrical systems that support Canada’s naval fleet, while mentoring a talented team of engineers and working with a wide range of internal and external partners.
As the Electrical Team Lead, you will be responsible for leading a multidisciplinary team focused on the design, development, and implementation of shipboard electrical systems and related subsystems. You’ll provide both technical leadership and people leadership, ensuring solutions meet program, regulatory, and schedule requirements while driving continuous improvement.
Responsibilities
Lead, supervise, and mentor a team of electrical engineers and embedded contractors, promoting collaboration, technical excellence, and professional growth
Coordinate team activities to support project milestones and program timelines
Oversee and guide subcontractor development of electrical design deliverables and technical purchase specifications
Participate in Platform Delivery Teams (PDTs) in support of design development and execution
Lead and contribute to technical design reviews focused on electrical systems
Support vendor engagement, including participation in technical and commercial negotiations
Assist in the development and execution of electrical test plans, procedures, and requirements verification activities
Communicate effectively with internal teams, clients, classification societies, and subcontractors
Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors
Drive design and process improvements to enhance vessel producibility, shipyard safety, and production performance
Support change management initiatives within the Electrical Team’s scope of responsibility
Identify, assess, and mitigate technical and program risks related to electrical systems
Qualifications
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering
Professional Engineer ( P.Eng. ) designation or eligibility
7+ years of experience designing and integrating complex electrical systems
Experience with marine electrical systems, including shipboard control systems and platform system integration
2+ years leading or managing technical teams, including task planning and work assignment
2+ years managing projects and/or subcontractors
Experience defining performance and environmental requirements for electrical equipment and systems
Proven experience developing and implementing electrical test plans and procedures
Experience preparing technical specifications for equipment and materials
Familiarity with classification society rules and plan approval processes
Strong communication skills and excellent personal time management
Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
Please note this position requires a full-time, in-office presence.
