Description

Description The RTW Specialist leads case management to support successful return-to-work and stay-at-work outcomes through an employee-centered approach. By partnering with employees, managers, unions, HR/LR, Safety, and WCB, they develop and implement effective, customized plans that promote safe, sustainable recovery and reduce disability-related impacts. This role actively manages absences, supports workplace participation, and addresses complex cases through collaboration, escalation, and WCB claim management, including objections and appeals. As part of the Health, Safety & Environment team, the Specialist also contributes to continuous improvement and evolving team priorities. Responsibilities Champion Irving Shipbuilding's RTW/SAW strategy by applying evidence-based practices that support optimal outcomes and prevent injury and illness. Educate and guide employees and stakeholders on RTW/SAW processes, early intervention, and WCBNS rights and responsibilities using an employee-centered approach. Assess cases holistically, collaborate with stakeholders, and develop tailored RTW/SAW strategies, including innovative approaches for complex cases (e.g., mental health). Lead planning and decision-making for RTW/SAW plans, identifying and resolving barriers to drive successful outcomes. Monitor and adjust RTW plans to ensure sustainability, coordinating interventions and maintaining ongoing communication with all parties. Manage caseloads effectively through timely documentation, follow-up, and prioritization to ensure high-quality case management. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree health-related discipline or diploma in health-related discipline with related experience preferred. Minimum of 3 years’ experience in the disability management field including the management of both physical and psychological disability claims. Strong knowledge of best practices in Disability Management and Return to Work / Stay at Work practices including early and safe return to work. Working knowledge of medical conditions, recovery guidelines, and resulting restrictions/impact on function. Strong leadership skills with demonstrated ability to make decisions, coach and build understanding and support in others, and resolve concerns related to sick benefit entitlement, and return to work Strong interpersonal/communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively; ability to articulate problem(s), need(s), request(s) clearly and succinctly to employees, health care practitioners, union officials, etc. Due to the nature of work Irving Shipbuilding does, all successful applicants must meet requirements for the Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).
