POSITION SUMMARY The MERL Intern will support MEDA’s Monitoring, Evaluation, Research, and Learning (MERL) function by contributing to data management, analysis, visualization, and insight generation for the Mastercard Foundation Africa Growth Fund . Working closely with the MERL Specialist and Data Systems Analyst , the intern will help transform complex datasets into clear dashboards, charts, and PowerPoint‑based insights that strengthen evidence‑based decision‑making, learning, and donor reporting. This role is well‑suited for candidates with strong analytical skills, high attention to detail, and an interest in impact measurement, learning, and data‑driven development programming. JOB STATUS Internship (6 months, with possibility of renewal based on performance and funding) Full‑time or part‑time arrangement to be confirmed Start date:  As soon as possible Location(s): Candidate should be based in Senegal REPORTING LINE The MERL Intern will report to the Monitoring and Evaluation Leads and work closely with the Data Systems Analyst. MAIN RESPONSIBILITIES Data Management and Analysis (40%) Support data cleaning, validation, and quality assurance across multiple datasets Organize and analyze data using Microsoft Excel and other analytical tools to identify trends, gaps, inconsistencies, and data quality issues Support basic statistical analysis and interpretation of key performance and impact indicators Document data issues and contribute to continuous improvement of data quality processes Data Visualization and Insight Generation (30%) Develop clear and accurate charts, graphs, and tables that communicate results effectively Support the development of dashboards and summary visualizations for internal and external reporting Translate complex datasets into concise insights, key messages, and learning points for diverse stakeholders PowerPoint Reporting and Knowledge Products (20%) Prepare PowerPoint slides that present data insights in a clean, professional, and MEDA‑aligned format Support the development of quarterly reports, learning briefs, and executive summary decks Ensure accuracy, consistency, and clarity of figures, titles, and visuals across reporting products Support to MERL Reporting and Learning (10%) Assist with indicator tracking, performance summaries, and internal data requests Support the review of outcome narratives by validating claims against available data and evidence Contribute to internal learning discussions and ad‑hoc analytical tasks as required Carry out additional duties as assigned in line with the evolving needs of the initiative REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS Currently enrolled in or recently completed a degree in economics, statistics, data science, development studies, public policy, or a related field Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint for analysis and reporting High attention to detail and commitment to data accuracy and integrity Strong analytical, organizational, and problem‑solving skills Ability to communicate data insights clearly to non‑technical audiences PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS Experience using Power BI or similar data visualization tools Basic knowledge of statistics and impact measurement indicators Familiarity with Monitoring and Evaluation concepts and frameworks Experience using Stata, R, Python, or SPSS is an asset Fluency in both English and French (written and spoken) is strongly preferred CORE COMPETENCIES Integrity and professionalism in handling sensitive data Strong time management skills and ability to meet deadlines Collaborative work style and willingness to learn Interest in evidence‑based decision‑making and development impact APPLICATION DEADLINE: April 6, 2026 @ 5:00 pm GMT.
