Job Summary
The Student Success & Instruction Librarian is dedicated to advancing the teaching, learning, and student engagement mission of the university. This role provides leadership and support for literacy instruction, curriculum-integrated teaching, and the development of learning experiences that strengthen students’ academic skills, confidence, and overall success. Working collaboratively with faculty, campus partners, and library colleagues, the Student Success & Instruction Librarian designs and delivers high‑impact instructional practices that promote student retention, persistence, and equitable access to academic support, while actively supporting the library’s first‑year instruction initiatives. This position also supervises student employees and coordinates the day-to-day operations of Sherrod Library’s Library Ambassador Program.
In addition to instruction, the Student Success & Librarian plays an active role in developing student-centered services, strengthening campus partnerships, and creating inclusive training environments that meet the needs of diverse learners. Through outreach, collaboration, and a commitment to continuous improvement, the Student Success & Instruction Librarian enhances the library’s role as an essential academic support hub and contributes to the university’s broader goals for student success.
This individual is a key member of the Charles C. Sherrod Library faculty and contributes to the library’s instructional program through evidence-based teaching practices, assessment of student learning, and ongoing professional development in pedagogy and student success strategies. As a faculty member, the Student Success & Instruction Librarian is expected to engage in work-related professional development and satisfy the requirements for a clinical-track position in academic assignment and service. This position reports to the Director of Student Success & Instruction.
Knowledge and Abilities
· Knowledge of ACRL Framework for Information Literacy for Higher Education.
· Knowledge of student success theories, learning support models, and strategies that promote retention, persistence, and equitable learning outcomes.
· Knowledge of current trends in academic librarianship, student success, and inclusive pedagogy.
· Knowledge of research tools, academic databases, and library technologies that support teaching and learning.
· Knowledge of the role of academic libraries in supporting diverse learners, first-generation students, and historically underserved populations.
· Strong teaching skills, including the ability to design and deliver engaging, learner-centered instruction in multiple modalities (in-person, online, hybrid).
· Excellent communication skills, with the ability to convey complex information to students, faculty, and colleagues.
· Ability to develop instructional materials, tutorials, guides, and learning objects that support student learning.
· Ability to work collaboratively across units to develop student-centered services and initiatives.
· Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
· Ability and willingness to learn new tools, techniques, and systems.
· Ability to contribute to the library’s mission as a clinical-track faculty member through academic assignments, service, and ongoing professional development.
Required Qualifications
· Master's degree in library or information science from an ALA accredited program, or equivalent degree if earned outside the U.S. or Canada.
· Minimum of two years of experience providing instruction, teaching, or facilitating learning in an academic, K-12, or library setting (experience teaching as a graduate student and temporary employee is applicable).
· Minimum of one year of experience with current web, instructional, and productivity technologies (e.g., LibGuides, Zoom, D2L, Microsoft Office).
· Experience providing research assistance, reference services, or academic support to students.
Preferred Qualifications
· Experience teaching information literacy or research skills in a higher education environment.
· Minimum of one year of supervisory experience, staff or student employees.
· Experience designing curriculum-integrated instruction, learning objects, tutorials, or other instructional materials.
· Experience with outreach, programming, or partnerships that support student engagement or academic success.
