This position works closely with the Zoological department and the rehabilitation team to manage the daily operations related to the medical care of both resident and rehabilitating animals. This position performs essential job functions in accordance with the standards of accrediting and regulatory bodies.&nbsp;</p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\"><strong>&nbsp;</strong></p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\"><strong>ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:</strong></p><ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;margin-left: 0in;\"><li>Coordinate with teams to schedule daily medical care of resident and rehabilitating animals- including but not limited to scheduling of sample collection and processing, diagnostic procedures, approximations, quarantine protocols</li><li>Ensure veterinary technical support to all resident medical emergencies and stranded animal events, including those that occur during non-scheduled times of work or outside of CMA&rsquo;s operating hours with ability to coordinate and implement an appropriate response to veterinary emergencies in the absence of a veterinarian.</li><li>Manage veterinary technicians including but not limited to hiring, training, schedules, goal setting, performance evaluations, corrective action when needed and terminations</li><li>Oversee maintenance of all hospital areas, servicing of associated medical equipment, and annual review and negotiaion of contracts related to hospital equipment and services.</li><li>Perform all duties related to purchasing of pharmaceuticals, hospital and laboratory supplies, vendor relationships, equipment quotes, disposing of expired drugs and supplies</li><li>Monitor and management of animal health annual budget, maintaining accurate and current records for accounting</li><li>Participates in weekly rounds with husbandry staff</li><li>Maintain biohazardous waste and sharps disposal program</li><li>Maintenance of aquarium oxygen supply</li><li>Assists veterinarian with medical record keeping and appointment scheduling.</li><li>Assist with euthanasia and post-mortem examinations</li><li>Collaborate with animal care staff in training husbandry behaviors to ensure behavior meets medical needs and participate in training when appropriate</li><li>Function as veterinary technician as needed</li><li>Develop, implement and enforce policies and procedures relevant to the veterinary care of the collection with regular evaluation of medical processes and protocols to ensure an efficient overall hospital operation</li><li>Participate in some or all aspects of the various types of research projects as deemed appropriate&nbsp;</li><li>Adhere to all OSHA, USDA, DEA and FWC regulations and make recommendations for work orders to ensure compliance in all areas</li><li>Coordinate with other departments to promote open communication and achieve CMA&rsquo;s goals</li><li>Participate in various PR and media events including professional interviews as deemed necessary or appropriate by the Veterinarian</li><li>Perform other duties as assigned</li></ul><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\"><br><strong>EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:&nbsp;</strong></p><ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;margin-left: 0in;\"><li>Position requires a bachelor&rsquo;s degree or higher.&nbsp;</li><li>Veterinary technician degree from an AVMA-accredited veterinary technician program (CVT/LVT) preferred</li><li>Minimum of 7 years proven experience in veterinary field including, minimum 5 years of veterinary aquatic experience and minimum of 3 years of managerial experience directly supervising staff</li><li>Ability to work a flexible schedule, including occasional weekends, early mornings/nights, and/or holidays as needed; must also be able to respond in case of emergency situations</li><li>Thorough understanding of medical equipment, including but not limited to anesthetic machine, anesthesia monitoring, in-house lab equipment, and radiology equipment&nbsp;</li><li>Knowledge of medical procedures in aquatic animals</li><li>Demonstrates broad understanding of the field of aquatic animal health, including common diseases and treatments, general husbandry, environmental quality, zoonotic diseases, and conservation issues in a broad range of taxa including marine and terrestrial mammals, birds, reptiles and aquatic species.&nbsp;</li><li>Ability to perform field response for stranded marine mammals</li><li>Experience using independent judgement and discretion in providing first-response and emergency first-aid patient care&nbsp;</li><li>Demonstration of mathematical competence and ability to manage a budget</li><li>Ability to communicate clearly both in writing and verbally and follow complex instructions</li><li>A proven ability to take initiative and work independently in the absence of supervision&nbsp;</li><li>Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, word, power point etc).&nbsp;</li><li>Familiarity with Tracks electronic records is beneficial&nbsp;</li><li>Ability to be certified in the state of Florida</li><li>Ability to obtain Florida driver&rsquo;s license&nbsp;</li></ul><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\"><strong>&nbsp;</strong></p><p style=\"margin-left:0in;\"><strong>PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:</strong></p><ul style=\"list-style-type: disc;margin-left: 29px;\"><li>Walk/stand for long periods of time - Frequently</li><li>Maneuver safely on uneven terrain or in tight spaces - Frequently</li><li>Safely climb ladders when needed - Often</li><li>Squat, bend, kneel, twist and reach - Often</li><li>Reach above the shoulders - Often&nbsp;</li><li>Push and pull larger equipment &ndash;
