Description
The Entry Level Speech Language Pathologist (SLP), the Speech Language Pathologist 1, reports to the Clinical Supervisor Speech Language Pathology/Rehab Service Manager and provides both direct and indirect patient care services. This is the entry-level staff therapist position designed for the new graduate with less than 12 months experience as a licensed therapist. The Entry Level Speech Language Pathologist 1 works primarily with adult and geriatric patients from diverse socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds, although pediatric and adolescent patients may also be treated. Under general direction and upon receipt of written referrals, the Entry Level Speech Language Pathologist 1, plans and administers a full range of speech therapy services for patients with a variety of voice, swallowing and upper airway impairments and disabilities. Services include patient evaluations using speech language pathology tests and measurements, establishment of therapeutic intervention goals and development of therapeutic intervention programs, and implementation of therapeutic intervention plans utilizing all aspects of the speech language pathology scope of practice. The Entry Level Speech Pathologist 1 maintains all applicable patient records related to the delivery of patient care services. While performing job duties, the Entry Level Speech Language Pathologist 1, may also supervise support personnel, student interns and SLP Clinical Fellows. The Entry Level Speech Language Pathologist 1 actively participates in departmental and organizational programs, including performance improvement activities, clinical education programs, and in-services and staff development activities.

yes Performs Speech Language Pathology evaluations on referral by a licensed physician or dentist and administers voice, swallowing, and upper airway evaluations to determine a patient’s functional limitations. Based on training, evaluation may include nasopharyngoscopy, laryngoscopy, videostroboscopy, flexible endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES), and/or Modified Barium Swallow Study (MBSS). Additional services may also include evaluation of laryngectomy and alaryngeal speech including tracheoesophageal prosthesis. 30%

Makes appropriate changes in therapeutic intervention programs according to the patient's progress and performance. Delegates and supervises any part of a patient’s therapeutic intervention which can be legally and appropriately done by support staff, SLP students or SLP Clinical Fellows. 10%

Qualifications
Required Qualifications :
Possession of a degree in Speech Language Pathology from an accredited professional educational program.
Minimum of 12 months experience as a licensed therapist.
Possession of or proven eligibility for CPR certification.
Ability to communicate effectively in English, both orally and in writing.
Ability to recognize signs of distress.
Basic computer skills in word processing and on line communication.
Possession of good interpersonal, time management, problem solving and self-initiation skills.
Preferred Qualifications :
Prior speech language pathology experience in an academic medical center environment.
Prior experience working on an interdisciplinary health provider team in the areas of voice, swallowing and upper airways.
License/Certification :
Licensure as a Speech Language Pathologist by the Speech-Language Pathology and Audiology Board of California
CPR certification from AHA.
