Join our team as a Sheet Metal Estimator! The Estimator I – Sheet Metal is responsible for using proprietary computer software to analyze customer supplied 3D CAD models, provide customers quotations, and set customer expectations through design for manufacturing feedback. Shift 11pm to 7pm or 12pm - 8pm (Shift Diff $2.40) Proto Labs maintains ITAR-compliant operations in all of our United States based facilities.  Due to ITAR regulations, this role is only open to U.S. Citizens, lawful permanent residents (green card holders) or foreign nationals granted refugee or asylee status.  Individuals with temporary visas (e.g. E, F-1, H-1, H-2, L, B, J, TN or OPT) are not eligible for hire in this role. Proto Labs, Inc. is an Equal Opportunity Employer Physical Demands: While performing the essential duties of this job, the employee is occasionally required to sit; use a computer keyboard, monitor and mouse, telephone and printer; reach with hands, and arms, talk, see and hear.  The employee is regularly required to stand, walk, stoop or kneel and must be able to lift and/or move up to 70 pounds. Work Environment: Indoors (A/C); nonsmoking; the majority of this job function is performed in a manufacturing area exposed to machinery and noise; with eye protection and safety shoes required. Occasionally works in outside weather conditions. Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and in high, precarious places and is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions, fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock and vibration. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. What you will do Extract information from customer-supplied 3D models and 2D print geometry through utilization of proprietary software to develop customer quotes. Provide customers with design for manufacturing feedback as needed to improve customer experience. Work with production staff to review methods ensuring optimal sheet metal manufacturing processes are utilized. Develop and maintain knowledge of all standard materials and hardware types, plating, powder coating, and welding requirements Develop and maintain knowledge of organizational processes in order to convey benefits and respond to inquiries from customers within quotes. Consult with outside vendors to ensure work can be performed within timelines and provide all necessary information to complete the job Responds quickly to customer’s requests for changes Consistently evaluates for best practice and improvement opportunities for self, team, and company. Comply with all company quality and safety standards. Adhere to all company policies and operational procedures. Perform additional tasks as assigned What it takes Ability to learn advanced proprietary graphical computer-aided analysis software. Strong communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision. Ability to multitask and prioritize own workload. Ability to work in a fast-paced, team-oriented work environment. Attention to detail and accuracy. Ability to comprehend and follow printed and computer-screen instructions, and direction from supervisors or technical leads Associate’s Degree in CAD, Drafting, or Design; Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering and/or similar (Preferred) High School Diploma or equivalent (Required) Basic level of Microsoft Office Suite, (Outlook, Word, Excel) Understand and interpret 3D solid models, 2d prints, and GD&T (Preferred) Bonus to take Core values, Teamwork, achievement, trust Adaptable – Adjusting work method/focus as needed with positive attitude Conceptual thinking – Ability to see the completed work and avoid issues along the way Problem solving – Able to be nimble and to correct mistakes quickly and precisely Results driven – Strives to be the best in both quality and throughput
