Description
People Architects is partnering with a well-established, family-owned business to recruit a People Operations Manager for an on-site role in Wooster, Ohio.
Summary: This is a hands-on HR leadership role supporting multiple transportation and operations teams. You’ll partner directly with drivers, dispatchers, operations leaders, and executives to build a strong culture, improve recruiting, support employee relations, and ensure compliance across a growing organization.
The ideal candidate is equally comfortable coaching leaders, resolving employee issues, ensuring regulatory compliance, and helping build a strong, safety-focused culture.
Key Responsibilities:
Serve as the primary HR partner for multiple locations, aligning people practices with business and operational goals.
Lead recruiting, onboarding, and retention efforts for office, operations, and CDL driver positions.
Manage employee relations, investigations, performance management, and supervisor coaching.
Oversee payroll, HRIS administration, benefits, leave management, and personnel records.
Ensure compliance with employment laws and transportation-related regulations, including DOT/FMCSA requirements.
Partner with Operations and Safety teams on training, incident response, return-to-work programs, and workplace initiatives.
Track and analyze HR metrics to identify trends and recommend process improvements.
Qualifications (Required and Preferred):
Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, or related field (or equivalent experience).
5+ years of progressive HR experience, including employee relations and recruiting.
Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR compliance.
Experience supporting transportation, logistics, manufacturing, or other operational workforces preferred.
Familiarity with DOT/FMCSA regulations and driver qualification programs is a plus.
Experience with HRIS and payroll systems.
SHRM-CP, SHRM-SCP, PHR, or SPHR certification preferred.
Strong communication, relationship-building, and problem-solving skills.
Valid driver's license and ability to travel between locations as needed.
