Certified Nursing Assistant/Companion
Job Description
Summary/Objective
The primary objective of this position will be to assist the PeaceCare Team as the direct service provider of personal service services to participating PeaceCare residents. This is accomplished by serving the residents according to their need and service, plan, with a ready, pleasant and accommodating disposition in order to provide them with a quality lifestyle by accomplishing the service goals and objectives for the resident population of Peace Village under the PeaceCare program.
Essential Functions
Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.
Serves PeaceCare residents according to their need and service plan with a ready, pleasant and accommodating disposition, providing quality nursing service in an environment that promotes their rights, dignity, freedom of choice and individuality.
Responsible for the individualized service plan for residents, and provides support according to their service plan.
Responsible for providing personal service services needed by each resident as specified in resident service plans or as required for health services under the direction of the PeaceCare Services Supervisor. This includes but is not limited to assisting in cleaning of resident apartments, resident laundry as required, wheelchairs, making beds, dishes, etc., as well as assistance with activities.
Attends to the individual needs of residents, which may include assistance with grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent service, toileting, colostomy service, prosthetic appliances, transferring and transporting, ambulation, and range of motion, communicating or other needs in keeping with the individual’s service requirements.
Lifts, moves and transports residents using proper body mechanics or lifting devices for accident prevention.
Responsible for delivered mandated Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s) to participating PeaceCare residents. The ADL’s are 1) feeding 2) dressing 3) bathing 4) toileting 5) transferring 6) personal hygiene and 7) ambulation.
Responds to tasks as assigned by the PeaceCare Supervisor as well as the Registered or Licensed Nurse.
Explains procedures and services to residents to gain cooperation, understanding and alleviate apprehension when necessary.
Maintains awareness of comfort and safety needs of residents, including emotional support and companionship.
Observes residents, records significant conditions and reactions and notifies the PeaceCare Services Supervisor, the Health Services Administrator or Registered/Licensed Nursing professional of residents’ condition and/or reaction to drugs, services and significant incidents.
Takes vital signs such as temperature, pulse, blood pressure and other vitals to detect deviation from normal and to assess condition of resident when required.
Communicates and interacts effectively and tactfully with the residents, visitors, families, peers and supervisors.
Lead, assists and escorts residents for appointments such as the beauty shop, activities, church services and off campus.
Completes certified nursing assistant records documenting service provided or other information in keeping with department policies.
Performs all job responsibilities in accordance with prescribed safety and infection control procedures, including thorough hand washing, use of disposable gloves where indicated and proper disposal of soiled materials.
Responds to life saving situations based upon policies, procedures and PeaceCare protocol.
Completes medication reminders.
Continues required training by completing in-service and online training.
Assists in training of new Certified Nurses Assistants.
Ensures outstanding customer service in accordance with the mission of Peace Village.

Work Environment
This position operates in a professional office environment and well as home residences at the Circle Inn at Peace Village. This role routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, copiers.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to stand, walk, use hands, and reach with hands and arms, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling and climbing all day. The employee must frequently lift and/or move objects up to 30 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move objects up to 75 pounds and to assist resident to standing position and pivot into a chair, onto a bed, into a shower, or for dress assist. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Position Type and Expected Hours of Work
This is a registry weekend/ seasonal position. Days and hours of work vary during standard business operating hours. Overnight, evening and weekend work frequently may be required as job duties demand.
Travel
Travel is not required for this position.
Required Education and Experience
High School Diploma required.
Health service industry experience, preferably working in a retirement living community.
1-2 years of experience as a C.N.A. preferred
A current CPR Certification is required.

This includes but is not limited to assisting in cleaning of resident apartments, resident laundry as required, wheelchairs, making beds, dishes, etc., as well as assistance with activities.\\r\\n\\tAttends to the individual needs of residents, which may include assistance with grooming, bathing, oral hygiene, feeding, incontinent service, toileting, colostomy service, prosthetic appliances, transferring and transporting, ambulation, and range of motion, communicating or other needs in keeping with the individual’s service requirements.\\r\\n\\tLifts, moves and transports residents using proper body mechanics or lifting devices for accident prevention.\\r\\n\\tResponsible for delivered mandated Activities of Daily Living (ADL’s) to participating PeaceCare residents.
