Overview M&J Engineering, P.C. is a quality provider of multi-discipline consulting services with over 300 employees. Since its inception in 2004, M&J has grown into diversified provider of engineering, construction management, construction inspection, technology, and environmental services to a broad range of clients, including federal, state and city/local agencies, private owners, architects, engineers and contractors. M&J Engineering is a leader in construction management and inspection, ITS, mechanical, electrical, wastewater, water supply, tunnel airport, port, marine/coastal, environmental engineering, and design-build services for both new infrastructure projects and renovations. The Assistant Vice President oversees and directs construction management and civil engineering design teams at M&J. This leadership role ensures timely project completion, adherence to design requirements, and alignment with company standards. The position reports to the Senior Vice President or designated supervisor. Responsibilities Develop and generate business with major state agencies and municipalities in Massachusetts (e.g., MassDOT, MBTA, Massport, MWRA, City of Boston, City of Cambridge). Lead and support engineering teams, fostering a culture of high performance and continuous improvement. Manage all future work in Massachusetts, including budgeting and strategic planning. Allocate resources to support operational and strategic initiatives. Ensure compliance with industry regulations and conduct regular audits. Communicate planning objectives and results to senior management. Conduct market research and identify growth opportunities. Cultivate strategic partnerships and lead initiatives to expand market share. Oversee recruitment, daily workflow, and project plan approvals. Ensure projects are completed within budget and efficiently. Establish and implement strategic direction for engineering and development. Align departmental actions with M&J’s business plan and vision. Implement engineering policies, standards, and security measures. Negotiate contracts and coordinate contractor work. Mentor mid-level directors and managers across engineering and operations. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or a closely related field. Professional Engineer (PE) license in Massachusetts. Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in engineering management or project leadership and 20 years of experience in the civil engineering/construction management industry. Proven experience working with Massachusetts agencies such as MassDOT, MBTA, or Massport. Strong leadership, communication, and strategic planning skills. Demonstrated ability to manage budgets, teams, and complex projects. Preferred Qualifications: Master’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or related discipline. Experience in business development and client relationship management. Familiarity with City of Boston, and City of Cambridge procurement processes. Experience mentoring engineering professionals and managing cross-functional teams. Knowledge of federal and state transportation and infrastructure regulations.
