POSITION SUMMARY:
Under the supervision of the Branch Executive Director, the Healthy Living Coordinator serves as the leader of the Wellness Department, overseeing Group Exercise, Wellness Coaches, Personal Training, and Fast Forward Fitness. This position is responsible for delivering a high-quality member experience, driving participation, and ensuring staff accountability through consistent leadership, evaluation, and operational execution.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Provides full leadership and oversight of the wellness department including group exercise, wellness coaches, and personal training staff.
Establishes clear expectations and holds all wellness staff accountable to performance, engagement, and YMCA standards.
Leads by presence on the wellness floor, actively coaching staff and ensuring high-quality member interactions at all times.
Owns the execution and performance of Fast Forward Fitness (FFF), ensuring all coaches deliver to standard, tracking completion rates, and driving member onboarding and retention.
Oversees Group Exercise programming including scheduling, participation growth, and instructor performance. Evaluates classes using Group Ex Pro and provides direct coaching for improvement.
Drives personal training performance by monitoring sessions, coaching trainers on client engagement and retention, and ensuring revenue and utilization expectations are met.
Uses data to lead the department by tracking group exercise attendance, personal training sessions, and Fast Forward Fitness performance, and make adjustments based on results.
Build strong relationships with members and ensure the wellness department creates a welcoming, engaging, and high-energy experience.
Conducts routine walkthroughs of all wellness areas and ensures cleanliness, safety, and organization. Reports maintenance and equipment issues in a timely manner and follows through to resolution.
Leads staff communication, development, and culture within the wellness department, ensuring alignment with YMCA values, expectations, and mission.
Identifies opportunities for program growth, increased participation, and improved member retention.
Attend weekly one-on-one meetings with the Community Executive Director to review performance, discuss strategy, and align. departmental goals with branch objectives.
Supports marketing and communication efforts to grow awareness and participation in wellness programs.
Supports the overall objectives of the YMCA and participates in all special events and activities.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Completes incident & accident reports within YMCA guidelines.
Ensures all wellness staff abide by YMCA policies, procedures and guidelines.

Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum 21 years of age
Bachelor’s degree in Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Health Promotion, Recreation, Sports Management, Public Health, Wellness Management, or related field preferred.
Must have Personal Trainer and Group Exercise Certification from nationally recognized vendor at time of hire and keep current.
2 years’ minimum experience in teaching Group Fitness and Personal Training.
Interpersonal communication skills required.
Ability to work with youth and adults from beginner to advanced levels of fitness experience.
New Staff Orientation required within 60 days of hire.
CPR/AED/First Aid Certified within 60 days of hire and keep current.
Risk Management & Child Abuse Prevention Training required within 60 days of hire
Orientation to Healthy Living at the Y to be completed within 60 days of hire.
Must have the physical, visual and auditory ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
Must be able to lift at least 45 pounds.
