Job Title: Construction QC Specialist III Location: Remote with travel to project sites Description/Job Summary POSITION DESCRIPTION HGL is currently seeking an Environmental Construction Quality Control (QC) Specialist III to provide on-site support for our nationwide environmental construction projects contracted by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, U.S. Air Force, and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. These projects typically consist of investigating and remediating sites using heavy equipment and remedial technologies to address soil, sediment, and groundwater contamination. This position requires approximately 70% travel to project sites across the United States. Responsibilities/Duties WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING The Construction QC Specialist III responsibilities include: Serving as the on-site lead for project QC. Interfacing with project managers, technical staff, clients, subcontractors, and other field personnel. Reviewing specifications, drawings, project deliverables, and ongoing construction activities to assure compliance with appropriate plans. Confirming all materials and equipment have been tested and approved for use per applicable specifications. Performing daily QC checks, tests, and compliance activities. Identifying, communicating, and documenting QC deficiencies, as well as ensuring they are corrected in a timely manner. Organizing and maintaining project records to ensure all required QC activities are properly documented. Minimum Requirements WHAT YOU NEED TO BE SUCCESSFUL The ideal candidate will need the following as a foundation for success in this role: The ability to travel at least 70% of the time to support projects ranging in duration from approximately 1 month to 1 year. Minimum of 3 years of experience as a Construction Quality Control Manager for a USACE project. Minimum of 5 years of experience in construction management working in close proximity to heavy equipment and excavation activities at large construction or remediation sites. Exceptional communication skills (written and oral). Ability to prepare and maintain project documentation, including daily QC reports, material/equipment inspections, submittal registers, and QC deficiency reports. Ability to generate meeting agendas and lead internal and client-facing meetings. Experience inspecting, testing, and documenting large scale soil excavation, backfill, and restoration activities. Ability to work successfully within a team environment. Proficient in MS Word, MS Excel, and other MS Office applications. Ability to lift up to 30 lbs. Desired Qualifications WHAT YOU NEED TO STAND OUT – Preferred, not required Current certifications including: 40-hour HAZWOPER, 8-hour HAZWOPER refresher, OSHA 30-hour Construction Safety, USACE CQM-C, and first aid/CPR/AED. Experience with the USACE Resident Management System (RMS) or QCS. Bachelor of Science degree from a 4-year college or university in engineering or a related technical field. Experience working on project sites contaminated with chlorinated solvents, heavy metals, and PFAS. Experience generating technical deliverables for project work (planning documents, progress reports, and completion reports). Physical & Environmental Requirements PHYSICAL & COGNITIVE REQUIRMENTS Ability to lift/move/relocate items up to 50 lbs Prolonged sitting up to 70% of the time; Prolonged standing up to 70% of the time Walking long distances; Walking over uneven or mountainous terrain Repetitive hand motions (typing/tool use/etc.) Ability to see details at close range; Ability to see details at a distance; Ability to interpret and analyze visual data (maps/graphs/warning indicators/etc.) Driving a company or personal vehicle Climbing ladders or stairs Complex problem solving and decision making Reading and interpreting technical documents or regulations Writing reports/proposals/or technical documentation Leading a team or coordinating multiple priorities Communicating effectively with clients/team members/and stakeholders Managing competing deadlines and shifting priorities WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS Must be able to work outdoors in adverse weather conditions (heat/cold/rain/snow/etc.) Must be able to travel up to 70% yearly May work in environments with loud noises/dust/or hazardous materials Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) Remote work environment Potential for longer days up to 12 hours in duration This description is not a comprehensive listing of activities, duties or responsibilities that may be required of the employee. Details Work Schedule: This position is primarily field oriented and will range from 8-12 hours daily. HGL remediation projects typically occur 5 to 6 days per week. Projects are long duration and HGL attempts to maintain rotations for work life balance approximately every 4 weeks for a duration of 1 week off. This rotation is a target and not guaranteed. Office Type : Project site, field work. Office work is minimal. Travel: A minimum of 70% of each month is onsite. A favorable pre-hire drug test and physical are required. All positions are subject to a pre-hire education and driving record verification.
