Description
Econolite® is an innovator of Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) solutions, products, and services. Our technology is helping save lives and making the Smart City a reality. If you want to be at the forefront of this intelligent technology revolution, we want to talk to you about being part of our team. Econolite is committed to employing the best talent that will make significant contributions to building a safer, connected world.
Econolite’s ITS solutions ease traffic congestion, provide safer mobility, and improve quality of life. As the one-stop-shop leader for traffic management systems, sensor products, and services, Econolite is committed to the advancement of connected and autonomous vehicles, smart cities, and cybersecurity.
Under the direction of the Senior Manager of Test and Support Engineering, the Senior Traffic Applications Engineer serves as a subject matter expert in traffic engineering, traffic operations, and detection technologies, leading testing and validation efforts for Econolite’s traffic control and detection products. This role is responsible for testing advanced systems, analyzing complex customer applications, troubleshooting field issues, and ensuring products meet industry standards and operational requirements. This role will collaborate closely with development, product management, and systems engineering teams to influence product direction and feature implementation. With a strong background in traffic signal operations and detection system performance, the ideal candidate will also drive continuous improvement in testing methodologies and application support, helping to shape the future of Econolite’s traffic management and detection solutions.
DUTIES:
Lead the creation and execution of comprehensive test plans and test cases for embedded software across Econolite’s traffic controller and detection product lines. Apply expert knowledge of traffic engineering principles, signal operations, and user behavior to develop realistic and high-impact test scenarios. Evaluate and troubleshoot detection product performance, including radar and video-based systems, using a strong understanding of analog/digital signals and network topologies. Work closely with engineers, product managers, project/program managers, and other team members throughout all stages of product development. Review customer specifications and field configurations, identifying gaps and proposing design-level solutions to meet or exceed performance and operational requirements. Serve as a senior technical resource, mentoring junior engineers and contributing to continuous improvement of test strategies, tooling, and support processes. QUALIFICATIONS:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering (Transportation), Electrical Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent demonstrated technical experience. 7+ years of hands-on experience in traffic engineering, traffic signal operations, or detection systems, with progressive responsibility in technical roles. Proven expertise in traffic controllers, sensor technologies (radar and video), and signal turn-on/configuration procedures. Strong working knowledge of interpreting and troubleshooting electronic schematics, wiring diagrams, and field network topologies (including TCP/IP, VLANs, and routing/switching environments). Proficiency in Linux and Windows environments, with experience using diagnostic tools such as Wireshark, logic analyzers, or serial/network monitors. Experience working directly with customers or agencies, providing field support, troubleshooting, and technical resolution. Experience in test automation and scripting (e.g., Python, C, or C++) is a significant plus. CCNA, IMSA, or other relevant traffic and networking certifications are advantageous; strong understanding of network protocols, topologies, and diagnostic tools is strongly preferred. PRE-EMPLOYMENT
All candidates who accept employment will be subject to a background investigation and drug screening. For applicable roles, candidates who accept employment will also be subject to a Motor Vehicle/Driving Record screening.
