Since 1884, we have continued our tradition of leadership in technology and innovation. Engineering tasking, responsibilities, and hiring level will be based on experience. The Engineering team is seeking a detail-oriented candidate to fill an Electrical Engineering position in our Waterfront Engineering Organization. The successful candidate will be responsible for different facets of Engineering that include supporting development, manufacturing, integration/installation, and testing, of Electrical Power, Lighting, and Controls systems installed shipboard, or in support of shipboard system operation.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>Key Responsibilities</strong></p>\n<p><strong>Safety Leadership:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Be a safety leader for your team and ensure that each person leaves in the condition they came in.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Project/Task Execution:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Develop ship power and controls system revisions/updates through tasks and projects involving engineers across disciplines, subcontractors, or the customer.</li>\n <li>Perform requirements analyses/evaluation, requirements decomposition, and resolution of requirements and specification conflicts.</li>\n <li>Provide support to the Waterfront Liaison Design teams with alternate solutions to issues that comply with all contractual requirements.</li>\n <li>Provide technical support to BIW’s Manufacturing construction and test personnel mechanics to expedite resolution of emergent issues including ship testing and system activation.</li>\n <li>Provide technical support to BIW’s Manufacturing teams for vendor supplied equipment.</li>\n <li>Perform calculations as required to validate designs and ensure they meet customer requirements.</li>\n <li>Develop/maintain and provide technical leadership for assigned systems, diagrams, calculations, purchase specifications, and related tasks.</li>\n <li>Review/Approve vendor equipment and other engineering documentation such as drawings, manuals, software, models, or other design documents produced as a part of external vendor contracts.</li>\n <li>Support vendor qualification testing and test approval.</li>\n <li>Interface with the local Navy customer, Construction Trades, Procurement, Quality Assurance, Fleet Service Engineering, Equipment vendors, and Design teams through appropriate correspondence to support manufacturing, testing, commissioning efforts, dock trials, sea trials, and resolution of technical issues with assigned systems/tasking.</li>\n <li>Complete technical reports and conduct verbal presentations as required.</li>\n <li>Develop and manage process improvements and cost-out initiatives to improve group performance.</li>\n <li>Develop supporting documentation, procedures, tests, or training materials. </li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Additional responsibilities as the backup to the Waterfront Engineering Corrosion & Coatings lead:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Support the Waterfront Engineering Corrosion & Coatings lead in various task as required.</li>\n <li>Interface with the Navy, Navy Contractors, and Shipbuilder PMO to resolve technical issues and develop appropriate correspondence for Corrosion & Coating related issues.</li>\n <li>Provide technical support to Manufacturing for the resolution of Corrosion & Coating related issues.</li>\n <li>Provide technical leadership for Corrosion & Coatings related tasks across all Engineering and Design disciplines.</li>\n <li>Participate in and/or lead Shipbuilder Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) in early implementation of Corrosion & Coating ship changes.</li>\n <li>Assist with special Corrosion & Coating related projects as assigned.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Team Collaboration and Communication:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Facilitate communication between Engineers and Designers to ensure successful engineering and design processes.</li>\n <li>Interface with and support Waterfront Design, Waterfront Engineering, Program Office, Change Management, Estimating, Contracts, Materials, Planning, Manufacturing, Navy and other customer organizations as required.<strong> </strong></li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Continuous Improvement:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Support the creation of plans for areas of improvement and conduct projects to improve efficiency, reduce cost, and reduce cycle times. </li>\n <li>Collaborate effectively within the team and with other groups both internal and external to BIW. </li>\n <li>Support proper and up-to-date process documentation for electrical engineering processes.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Required/Preferred Education/Training</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>A Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, Electrical Engineering Technology, Computer Engineering, Material Sciences or equivalent degree is required.</li>\n <li>A master’s degree in Engineering, or P.E. is preferred.</li>\n <li>Working knowledge of the following discipline(s) are required: Power and Controls Engineering.</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Required/Preferred Experience</h2>\n<p>Sr. Engineer: 5+ years of experience requiredPrincipal Engineer: 12+ years of experience required</p>\n<ul>\n <li>Excellent verbal and written communication skills; adept at giving technical presentations at group meetings.</li>\n <li>Ability to lead, organize, plan, and execute projects.</li>\n <li>Demonstrated ability to work in a positive team environment.</li>\n <li>Demonstrated ability to work multiple priorities simultaneously, and to completion.</li>\n <li>Strong Project Management skills and working knowledge of Microsoft Project are preferred.</li>\n <li>Highly motivated, strong attention to detail with proven ability to work independently.</li>\n <li>Some travel is required.</li>\n <li>Operation of Microsoft Windows, Windows Software, and Microsoft Office products.</li>\n <li>CAD skills are preferred.</li>\n <li>A broad knowledge of and experience with a variety of computer systems, networking, technologies, troubleshooting is preferred, including network communication and protocols and data collection.</li>\n <li>Experience working on power systems and power systems troubleshooting and testing is preferred.</li>\n <li>Experience with electrical software, calculations, and modeling is preferred.</li>\n <li>Data architecture and data management skills including database design and development are preferred.</li>\n <li>Lean Six Sigma training and/or experience is preferred.</li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong> </strong></p>\n<p><strong>Must have the ability to obtain a secret clearance.</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li><strong>This position requires you to be able to obtain a government security clearance.</strong> You must be a US Citizen for consideration, and you must be able to obtain an interim security clearance within the first 45 days of hire.
