    "ExternalDescriptionStr": "<p><strong>Position Summary:&nbsp;</strong></p><p>The EMT is an allied health professional who provides a wide range of basic level patient care and transportation outside the hospital setting, under emergency and non‐emergency conditions. The individual must be able to deal with all types of human responses from the patient, bystanders, and themselves. &nbsp;The EMT is responsible for functioning in the pre‐hospital setting as well as various capacities throughout the hospital. &nbsp;Patient care encompasses patients of all ages regardless of race, religion, or cultural background.</p><p><strong>Education, License &amp; Cert:&nbsp;</strong></p><p>EMT Certification with the PA/NY DOH; based on which State employment is located in.&nbsp;</p><p>In Pennsylvania locations, must have EVOC certification with EMSVO endorsement on EMT certification within 6 months of initial hire date.</p><p>High School diploma or equivalent.&nbsp;</p><p><span style=\"font-size: 11pt;\">Will consider military experience in lieu of high school diploma or equivalent.</span></p><p><strong>Experience:&nbsp;</strong></p><p>Maintains current certification as EMT in the State of employment.</p><p>Maintains current certification in CPR.&nbsp;</p><p>Must have current valid driver’s license.&nbsp;</p><p>Ability to read, write, understand oral communication, and have verbal ability in giving presentations/teaching. &nbsp;</p><p>Keeps neat and legible written records. &nbsp;</p><p>Follows universal precautions.&nbsp;</p><p>Utilizes proper body mechanics.&nbsp;</p><p>Is able to make timely decisions.&nbsp;</p><p>Is able to handle traumatic situations, such as the death of a patient, including children, and unpleasant sights.</p><p><strong>Essential Functions:&nbsp;</strong></p><p>1. Performs basic life support in accordance to the Pennsylvania/New York Department of Health statewide basic life support protocols and completes all protocol update education.</p><p>2. Must be skilled in all aspects of medical emergencies and trauma associated with BLS Emergency Medical Services.</p><p>3. Pursuant to direct or standing orders from a Medical Command Physician, the EMT will be able to: &nbsp;administer medications and perform all required procedures in accordance to the PA/NY DOH for basic life support.</p><p>4. Performs/demonstrates safe operation of emergency vehicle, including emergency driving.</p><p>5. Supervises students when they provide patient care, treatment, and services as part of their training.</p><p>6. Provides direction and assistance to ambulance personnel on scenes and acts as triage officer during times of disaster.</p><p>7. Performs Quality Improvement duties as assigned.</p><p>8. Keeps informed of fire, safety, and disaster programs.</p><p>9. Attends designated in-service programs.</p><p><strong>Other Duties:&nbsp;</strong></p><p>1.
