Teachers prepare lessons designed to increase students’ language skills, their accuracy and fluency, appropriate to a broad range of situations and needs, and in accordance with the ILSC Curriculum Guidelines and Course Outlines. High quality delivery is expected. This is a part time, fixed-term position consisting of 15 instructional hours per week.   </span></span></p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\"><br></span></p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">The schedule timeline and hourly requirements are as follows:  </span></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Pre-program staff training will take place between June 22, 2026, to June 26, 2026  </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Your weekly work schedule will consist of five mornings per week, Monday-Friday, from 9:00 AM-12:00 PM  </span></li>\n</ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\"> </span></p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><span>Job Duties: </span></span><span> </span></span></p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\"><span>The duties of this position include, but are not limited to:</span><span> </span></span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\"><span>Teachers prepare lessons designed to increase students’ language skills, their accuracy and fluency, appropriate to a broad range of situations and needs, and in accordance with the ILSC Curriculum Guidelines and Course Outlines. High quality delivery is expected.  </span></span><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\"><br></span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\"><span>Teaching 15 hours of English lessons over a five-day week (Monday – Friday mornings from 9:00 AM-12:00PM) </span></span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\"><span>Eliciting students’ interests and language needs in an organized way  </span></span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\"><span>Preparing lessons using recommended resource materials (or substitutes own resources in consultation with the Centre Director)  </span></span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\"><span>Creating an atmosphere that encourages all students equally in self-expression, self-reflection, cooperation and leadership  </span></span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\"><span>Evaluating student progress and completing academic records as required by the Centre Director (i.e., class records of attendance, student reports and progress reports)  </span></span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\"><span>Co-operating with the Centre Director and on occasions with third party agents, colleagues from language agencies, and accrediting Inspectors in the observation and evaluation of lessons  </span></span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\"><span>Assisting with the welcome, induction and testing of students on the first morning of class  </span></span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\"><span>Attending staff meetings for briefing and discussion of academic and welfare matters  </span></span></li>\n</ul>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">The teacher is expected to use a range of modern and traditional language learning techniques and methodology including the following:  </span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Building students’ vocabulary acquisition for formal and informal situations e.g. dialogues, discussion, role-plays, outings  <br>Introducing, practicing and reviewing language structures (grammar) using a communicative approach  </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Developing communication strategies such as initiating, maintaining, closing of verbal interactions across a wide spectrum of situations drawn from daily life  </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Increasing communicative skills through appropriate question and answer techniques, presentations, decision-making, offering feedback to others, analyzing and evaluating situations, negotiating, debating, etc.  </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Shaping pronunciation and speech production towards natural English  <br>Supporting and encouraging students to self-correct</span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Evaluating and offering feedback to the students in ways that increase their self-confidence in using English </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Incorporating social media and planning age-appropriate language learning activities to engage and motivate students  </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Other duties as assigned </span></li>\n</ul>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\"> </span></p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\"><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><span><span>Education and Experience Required:</span></span></span></span></p>\n<p><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">All ESL teachers at the ILSC Juniors Residential Program at UBC must possess the following   </span><br><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">qualifications:  </span></p>\n<ul>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">A completed Bachelor’s degree  </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">A completed TESL certificate recognized by TESL Canada (or equivalent, e.g. </span><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">CELTA)  </span></li>\n<li><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">Experience teaching and working with students aged 10-17 years old  </span><br><span style=\"color: rgb(0, 0, 0)\">*Please indicate in your application that you possess the above qualifications.
