Description
Commercial Building Project Estimator
Shah Development, LLC is seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Commercial Building Project Estimator to join our team. This role is responsible for preparing accurate cost estimates for commercial construction projects, including site development and subdivision work. The ideal candidate has strong analytical skills, construction knowledge, and the ability to manage multiple bids in a fast-paced environment.
Key Responsibilities
1. Cost Estimating & Analysis
Prepare detailed cost estimates for commercial building projects, including materials, labor, and equipment
Analyze drawings, specifications, and other documentation to prepare time, cost, and labor estimates
Develop conceptual and preliminary budgets for early-stage projects
2. Subdivision & Site Development Estimating
Estimate costs associated with subdivision development, including:
Site grading and earthwork
Utility installation (water, sewer, storm drainage)
Roadways, curbs, and paving
Landscaping and erosion control
Review civil engineering plans and coordinate with land development teams
3. Bid Preparation & Management
Solicit and review subcontractor and supplier bids
Prepare bid packages and proposals for submission
Ensure all estimates align with project scope and client requirements
Maintain bid schedules and meet deadlines
4. Collaboration & Coordination
Work closely with project managers, engineers, architects, and clients
Participate in preconstruction meetings and project handoffs
Provide value engineering suggestions to optimize project costs
5. Documentation & Reporting
Maintain accurate records of estimates, bids, and historical cost data
Prepare reports and presentations for internal and external stakeholders
Track cost trends and market conditions
Qualifications
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Civil Engineering, or related field (preferred)
Experience
3–7+ years of experience in commercial construction estimating
Proven experience with subdivision or land development projects
Skills & Competencies
Strong understanding of construction methods, materials, and building codes
Ability to read and interpret architectural and civil drawings
Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Bluebeam, PlanSwift, or similar)
Excellent mathematical, analytical, and organizational skills
Strong communication and negotiation abilities
Preferred Qualifications
Experience with large-scale commercial or mixed-use developments
Familiarity with local zoning and subdivision regulations
Knowledge of value engineering and cost control strategies
