Description
Description
Job Summary:
If you’re the kind of person who sees environmental compliance not as a checklist—but as a mission—you’ll feel right at home here. As our Program Manager, Environmental & Waste Management, you’ll be the force that keeps our operations clean, compliant, and ahead of the curve. You’ll partner with engineers, operators, and regulators to make sure everything we do respects both the environment and the critical work we support. Think of this role as part strategist, part detective, and part environmental champion—keeping our site running safely while navigating complex regulations with confidence.
What You Will Do:
You will lead and evolve environmental and waste management programs across the site—ensuring compliance with air, water, and waste regulations while keeping operations moving forward. This includes developing and maintaining permits, partnering with regulators, reviewing designs and procedures for compliance, conducting inspections and assessments, and analyzing environmental data to identify risks or trends. You’ll guide teams and contractors in day-to-day compliance, investigate issues when they arise, and implement smart, lasting corrective actions. Along the way, you’ll keep leadership informed and ensure our environmental programs are not only compliant—but resilient and forward-thinking.
We’d Love to Hear from People With:
A Bachelor’s Degree in Environmental Science, Waste Management, Engineering, Biology, Physical Sciences, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
Demonstrated technical knowledge of environmental compliance and waste management systems.
5+ years of experience in environmental engineering and hazardous waste management, including at least two years in an EPA, NRC, or DOE regulated environment.
Strong knowledge of regulatory frameworks including Clean Water Act (CWA) including National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES), SPCC (Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure), Clean Air Act (CAA) including Title V and National Emissions Standards for Hazardous Air Pollutants (NESHAP), Emergency Planning and Community Right-to-Know Act (EPCRA), Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA), and Hazardous Materials Management.
Experience preparing regulatory reports, analytical data analysis, tracking/trending environmental data, and supporting permitting processes.
Ability to interpret regulatory requirements and determine reportability for environmental releases or incidents.
Proficiency with tools like Word and Excel for reporting, analysis, and data tracking.
The ability to obtain and maintain a “Q” clearance.
A Successful Candidate Brings:
A Bachelor’s Degree with a focus in Environmental Science or Biology.
8+ years of experience in Environmental Engineering and Hazardous Waste Management, including at least five years working in EPA, NRC, or DOE environments.
Deep familiarity with permitting processes and regulatory agencies such as OEPA and USEPA.
A proactive mindset with the ability to anticipate risks, solve problems, and influence teams toward strong environmental performance and continual improvement.
Strong communication skills and the ability to build credibility with regulators, leadership, and cross-functional teams.
Professional certification.
An active “Q” clearance.
In compliance with federal law, all persons hired will be required to verify identity and eligibility to work in the United States and to complete the required employment eligibility verification form upon hire.
This position will require a pre-employment background check and a pre-employment drug test.
Centrus Energy and all subsidiaries shall abide by the applicable legal requirements. We prohibit discrimination against qualified individuals based on their status as protected veterans or individuals with disabilities and prohibit discrimination against all individuals based on their race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity or national origin.
This position requires the successful candidate to obtain and maintain a Q security clearance. Candidates for positions requiring a security clearance are required to be tested for the absence of any illegal drug as defined in 10 CFR 707.4 prior to an offer of employment being made. In addition, once employed, employees will become part of a random drug testing program and may also be tested in the event of any incident causing injury or causing damage to property, or if it is determined that there is a reasonable suspicion the employee is under the influence of drugs or alcohol. This position will require preemployment background check on the part of the Company and in order to receive a Q security clearance, a background investigation by the Federal government. Subsequent Federal government reinvestigations may be required.
Centrus Energy Corp. is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
