Department Overview We strive to be a unified team of expert clinicians, administrators, and support staff that provides our patients with exceptional, compassionate care through strong leadership, clear communication, focused education, and evidence-based practice. 10KPV provides care to adolescent through geriatric patients ranging from 16-100+ who have a variety of diagnoses which require medical or surgical interventions and recovery for Neurosurgical, Neurological, Stroke, Otolaryngology, and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (OMFS) conditions. This position also comes with great benefits! Some highlights include: Comprehensive health care plans. Covered 100% for full-time employees and 88% for dependents. $50K of term life insurance provided at no cost to the employee Two separate above market pension plans to choose from Vacation - 192 to 288 hours per year depending on length of service, prorated for part-time Holidays - up to 64 holiday hours per calendar year (employees accrue .0308 holiday hours for each hour paid – included in vacation accruals) Sick Leave - 96 hours per year, prorated for part-time Substantial public transportation discounts (Tri-met and C-Tran) Tuition Reimbursement Innovative Employee Assistance Program (EAP) including extensive wellness resources Function/Duties of Position Patient Populations: • Neurosurgery: Involves all aspects of pre and post neurosurgery care involving frequent neuro assessment, safety checks, and pain management. Craniotomies – for intracranial hemorrhages, brain tumors, shunts, deep brain stimulators, vagal nerve stimulators, aneurysms, neuralgias, and traumatic brain injuries. Spine surgeries – for disc herniation, fractures, tumor removal, and congenital disorders. Transphenodial resection of pituitary tumors – care involves management of lumbar drains, frequent labs, close monitoring of specialized assessments. • Neurology: Care for patients with encephalopathies, multiple sclerosis, Guillian-Barre syndrome, myasthenia gravis, auto-immune diseases, seizure disorders including and neurological disorders of unknown etiologies.• Stroke: Certified acute care- includes frequent observation and neuro assessment, potentially unstable and at high risk for complications.• Otolaryngology/Head and Neck Surgery: Includes new tracheotomies and total laryngectomies, tissue transfers (free flap or rotational flap), thyroidectomy, parathyroidectomy, and resection of head and neck carcinomas. Involves all aspects of pre and post-operative care including specialized and frequent airway management, artificial airways, respiratory, flap, drain assessments, safety checks, and pain management.• Oral Maxillofacial Surgery: Includes jaw fractures, reconstruction, dental abscess, and complex dental procedures. Involves all aspects of pre and post-operative care involving specialized and frequent airway management, respiratory assessments, safety checks, and pain management. • Designated care unit for all lumbar drains, deep brain stimulators, acute strokes, new tracheotomies.• Overflow unit for ophthalmology, orthopedic–spine, and cardiac/thoracic patients. Department Specific Requirements: • Annual Lumbar Drain (LD) Competency• 8 hours of Stroke Continuing Education annually• Annual Trans-radial (TR) Band Competency Required Qualifications 1 year RN experience in a hospital setting BSN Graduates: Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing from a program accredited by Commission of Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE), Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing (ACEN) or Commission for Nursing Education Accreditation (CNEA) 30 days before start date. ADN Graduates: Associate Degree in Nursing from an accredited program 30 days before the start date. Associate degree Nurses required to enroll in BSN program within 3 years of hire and complete within 5 years of hire Current, unencumbered Oregon State Registered Nurse License BLS from AHA required. New hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the position with or without accommodation Preferred Qualifications • National certification in the specialty area is desired.• Certified Neuroscience Registered Nurse (CNRN) certification • Certified Medical-Surgical Nurse (CMSN) certification. • Stroke Certified Registered Nurse (SCRN) certification • Experience in a high-level acuity medical facility. Additional Details Length of Orientation – Experienced Nurse External candidates: OHSU & Nursing New Employee Orientation (NEO) for about a week. Either Transition to Practice (TTP) Program Specialty Fellowship/Fellowship Learning Pathway or Orientation experience for 3 days-26 weeks depending on the care area.
