Description

Job Title : Gas Project Engineer. Reports to : Manager JOB SUMMARY: The Gas Project Engineer role will be instrumental in planning the execution and successfully completion of OML30 Gas Development initiatives currently being the Flare Gas Monetization and Gas Growth. The Gas Project Engineer will support and oversee in some cases, the technical design, planning, execution, and successful completion of different small modifications to the existing assets and the construction of major new facilities for gas related projects. This role will require collaboration with cross-functional teams and management of direct reports who are mostly from multi-disciplined background, ensuring projects align with technical, safety, while helping the Gas Monetization Project Manager in maintaining budgetary, and timeline goals. This role also demands sound technical and production operation expertise, project management acumen, and a commitment to safety and environmental standards. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Project Planning and Engineering Design: Supervise multidisciplinary internal and contractors’ technical teams to develop project plans, work scopes, objectives, schedules, and budgets. When required develop technical designs, specifications, and engineering drawings, applying relevant industry codes, standards, and regulations (e.g., API, ASME, NACE). Apply engineering principles (relevant disciplines such as process, mechanical, structural, piping, electrical, instrumentation) to design, modifications, and help optimize assets and systems. Conduct feasibility studies, risk assessments, and cost-benefit analyses. Participate in design reviews and provide technical solutions. Ensure design comply with industry standards, regulations, and company policies. 2. Project Execution: Support the Project Manager in achieving progress, while ensuring adherence to timelines, budgets, and quality standards; Review vendor proposals and technical bids, participate in vendor selection; Coordinate with procurement teams to ensure timely delivery of materials and equipment; Coordinate and align with contractors, vendors, and internal stakeholders; Troubleshoot technical issues and implement corrective actions; support in monitoring project costs and schedules, identifying and addressing potential overruns; Analyse project progress, identify bottlenecks, and implement corrective actions. 3. Engineering and Technical Support: Provide technical support and expertise in gas processing, pipeline design, compression, and metering Interpret engineering drawings, P&IDs, and technical specifications for project implementation. Ensure compliance with industry standards (ASME, API, NFPA, etc.) and regulatory requirements. Review and approve engineering calculations, designs, and material selections. Work closely with vendors, suppliers, and contractors to ensure technical requirements are met. 4. Construction and Commissioning: Provide technical support and oversight during construction phases ensuring quality, safety, and alignment with project technical specifications; Participate in the commissioning and start-up of new gas facilities or systems 5. Develop and execute testing procedures to verify gas system performance. Prepare handover documentation and provide technical training to operations teams. 6. Stakeholder Coordination & Communication: The ideal candidate will communicate effectively with internal teams (engineering, operations, maintenance, etc.) and external stakeholders (JVP representatives, contractors, regulatory bodies); Will collaborate with cross-functional teams to resolve project challenges; Prepare and present project progress reports with a focus on potential risks and solutions. Participate in meetings, site visits, and inspections to ensure project alignment with objectives 7. Safety, Quality and Compliance: Prioritize safety in all gas project phases, adhering to company and industry safety protocols; Implement quality assurance and control measures to ensure projects meet established standards. Conduct hazard analysis and implement mitigation strategies for high-risk activities. Ensure regulatory compliance with local, national, and international gas safety standards 8. Project Reporting and Documentation: Prepare progress reports, technical documents, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders; Maintain accurate project records and documentation. 9. Continuous Improvement & Technical Innovation: Stay updated on industry trends, technologies, and best practices; Identify and implement opportunities for project optimization and improved efficiency; Contribute to lessons learned and best practice development within the engineering team. QUALIFICATION Key qualifications for this role are: •B. Eng in Mechanical, Petroleum or Production Engineering. •A degree in Gas Engineering will be advantageous •Minimum of 5 years of experience in the oil and gas industry. •In-depth knowledge of Gas production operations. •Knowledge of engineering design software and project management tools •Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills. •Strong organizational and time management skills. •Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. •Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment. •Willingness to travel to project sites as needed and at very short notice. •Registered Member Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria (COREN) and Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE)
