We provide accessible, quality, culturally safe and holistic health care that supports and enhances the wellness of individuals, families, and communities. We work with our 11 First Nation community partners and the IFC in the provision of primary health care, traditional healing, mental wellness and addictions, home and community support services, and health promotion services. The opportunity: An employee in this role will support patients on their wellness journey. The Minobimaadizing Peer Support Worker will use their own lived experience with mental health and addictions to support clients by attending appointments, having regular check ins by text or phone, and participating in weekly team meetings. The Peer Support Worker will support a workplace that embraces diversity, encourages teamwork, and complies with all applicable regulatory and legislative requirements. This position requires the incumbent to be First Nations, Inuit or Métis with preference given to candidates who are members or residents of Garden River First Nation, Thessalon First Nation, Mississauga First Nation, Serpent River First Nation, Sagamok Anishnawbek, Atikameksheng Anishnawbek, Residents of Batchewana First Nation and those living in Sault St. Marie. What you need to bring with you: An adult with lived experience of mental health challenges. A strong understanding of peer support work and peer-led interventions. Knowledge of systemic issues such as stigma and the isolation felt by people with mental health challenges and will be familiar with principles of recovery and empowerment. Familiar with harm reduction principles and working from a trauma-informed lens. Willing to work from your own lived experience to model recovery-oriented principles and your own personal recovery journey. Possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills enabling you to work within a collaborative and diverse interprofessional team. Ability to build positive rapport with participants and colleagues. Effective leadership, decision-making, organizational and problem-solving skills are required. Ability to be flexible, self-reflective, and supportive. Experience working with First Nations, Inuit and Métis is required. Computer literacy and the willingness to learn new computer programs is required. Must possess a valid Ontario Driver’s License and a reliable vehicle. Why work with us?
