Description
The MRI Technologist I is responsible for performing high ‑ quality Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) procedures in accordance with established protocols and safety standards. This role operates with minimal supervision while demonstrating basic foundational MRI technical skills, clinical judgement, and attention to patient safety across diverse patient populations. The technologist prepares and positions patients, operates MRI equipment, administers contrast materials as required, and ensures diagnostic images meet standards for interpretation. The position also supports daily department operations, equipment quality control, accurate documentation, and patient-centered care.
Essential Functions:
Confirms that physician orders match scheduled exams and documents all relevant symptoms, history, and exam indications. Explains procedures, addresses concerns, reduces patient anxiety, and obtains cooperation to ensure safe and accurate imaging. Screens patients and staff, monitors SAR levels, and enforces all magnetic field safety protocols. Positions patients using proper body mechanics and immobilization devices to achieve optimal imaging results. Adjusts MRI equipment, sequences, and exposure parameters following established protocols. Reviews images for diagnostic quality and completeness; repeats images as necessary to meet clinical standards. Performs IV access and administers contrast agents when required, monitoring for safety and documenting per protocol. Verifies correct exam titles, modifies billing codes as needed, uploads images, and prepares prior studies for radiologist review. Document accurately in the EMR/RIS/PACS: patient assessments, imaging details, contrast usage, dose indices, and procedural notes. Conducts routine equipment checks, performs quality control procedures, and ensures supply levels and room readiness. Assists with workflow efficiency, contributes to a safe and compliant environment, and performs additional duties as assigned.
