Through broader and more technically challenging work assignments, the engineer will develop a thorough understanding of policies, methods and procedures.</span></p><p><strong>What You Will Do:</strong></p><ul style=\"list-style-type:disc;\"><li><p style=\"line-height:normal;margin-bottom:0in;\">Perform classical hand stress analysis, finite element stress analysis, and fatigue analysis.&nbsp;</p></li><li><p style=\"line-height:normal;margin-bottom:0in;\">Be proficient in the use of finite element modeling techniques using primarily FEMAP for finite element model development and NASTRAN finite element solution.&nbsp;</p></li><li><p style=\"line-height:normal;margin-bottom:0in;\">Perform Structural Non-linear finite element analysis when required.</p></li><li><p style=\"line-height:normal;margin-bottom:0in;\">Perform Seakeeping Analysis using ABS DLA/SFA software.</p></li><li><p style=\"line-height:normal;margin-bottom:0in;\">Prepare structural analysis reports and work with other engineers to find resolutions to problems.</p></li><li><p style=\"line-height:normal;margin-bottom:0in;\">Perform other duties as required, i.e., plan review for structures to the ABS rules and IMO requirements.&nbsp;</p></li><li><p style=\"line-height:normal;margin-bottom:0in;\">Maintain the technical quality, content, consistency, continuity and timeliness of action of all assigned projects to ABS standards.<span style=\"color:#555555;font-family:HelveticaNeueW01-55Roma;\"><span style=\"font-size:10.0pt;\">&nbsp;</span></span></p></li></ul><p><strong>What You Will Need:</strong></p><p><u>Education and Experience</u></p><ul><li>BS degree in engineering from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of five (5) years of related engineering experience, or a MS degree from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of four (4) years of related engineering experience, or Ph.D. from an accredited engineering school and a minimum of two (2) years of related experience.</li></ul><p><u>Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities</u></p><ul><li>Special skills or expertise in FEMAP (or PATRAN) and NASTRAN. Candidate should be comfortable performing static analysis on portions of a ship structure, i.e. crane foundation.</li><li>Must have ability to read technical drawings, including ship structure drawings.</li><li>Must have excellent oral and written communication skills. Candidate will be expected to prepare technical reports for clients.</li><li>Proficient with computers and MS Office.&nbsp;</li><li>Knowledgeable with programming, including Visual Basic, FORTRAN, and Python. Candidate will be expected to become proficient with in-house tools written in a variety of programming languages.</li><li>Candidate will be expected to routinely perform detailed work covering a range of topics. Ability to learn quickly and provide innovative solutions is expected.</li><li>Applicant must be a United States Citizen or Permanent Resident.</li><li>Knowledge of ship structure and/or seakeeping analysis is desired.</li><li>Previous experience with full-ship FEA analysis, including strength and fatigue assessments.</li><li>Previous experience with hydrodynamics and seakeeping analysis using PRECAL.</li><li>Able to easily read new and historic ship drawings from a range of ship builders.</li><li>Familiarity with Navy ships and terminology.</li></ul><p><strong>Reporting Relationships:</strong></p><p>The incumbent generally reports to a Department Head or Manager but may report to others depending on the specifics of the assignment.
