ARMED SERVICES YMCA of ALASKA Position Description Job Title: Teacher’s Assistant Reports to:  Education Director FLSA Status:  Full-Time /Hourly/Non-Exempt Hourly Pay: $17.03 – $25.07 DOE Start Date: August  24 ________________________________________________________________ Basic Job Purpose :  The teacher’s assistant is responsible for maintaining a warm, healthy environment to promote the total growth and well-being of the children in the early education program.  The teacher assistant shares with the teacher in the responsibility of nurturing each child’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth.  The teacher’s assistant has the responsibility to assist the teacher as a team member in the daily operation of their classroom by maintaining quality early childhood education and care for all participants and insuring compliance in all state regulations and DOD Standards. Functions and Duties: Program and Services Management Assist the teacher in implementation of daily schedule/curriculum with attention to the needs of the children, including quality, health, safety, and cleanliness of environment beyond minimum regulations and requirements.    Inform the teacher immediately when social, mental health, educational or medical services appear necessary for any child in the classroom. Maintain nurturing and responsive interactions with children. Maintain open parent communications including individual or group meetings. Allow flexibility in your position and schedule to ensure quality care. Be prepared to participate in all children’s activities, which include but are not limited to classroom activities, field trips, outdoor play, swim, gym, and family or special organizational events. Lead by example; encourage classroom success through modeling positive behaviors. Resolve conflicts when necessary to ensure a positive experience for everyone and in cooperation with the procedures established by the teacher. Program Tracking Maintain correct statistical data, forms and files on students, when directed by teacher. Facility Management Maintain appropriate classroom hygiene and cleanliness standards- which includes daily cleaning of toys and surfaces. Inform teacher of new equipment needs, maintenance requests and safety concerns. Maintain a healthy classroom environment by monitoring the safety and security of the children. Monitor and provide suggestions to assure playground and classrooms are maintained to the highest standards. Attend staff and training meetings requested by the teacher. Ensures supplies are requested to teacher in a timely manner Report unsafe conditions to teacher.  Immediately correct condition, if possible. Other Duties as assigned by supervisors Working Conditions : Must be able to lift and carry 40 lbs. Physical demands are the ability bend and stretch and be on your feet for long periods of time. Qualifications : Understand hiring is on a trial basis for 6 months and then to be re-evaluated to see if all requirements are being met. Must successfully complete all required training and certification required by the ASYMCA and DOD guidelines Must successfully pass all background checks to include Installation Record Check, State Check, Fingerprint, CNACI.  Very good organizational and time management skills. Must have a positive attitude. Knowledge of Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint. Post Hire Requirements : Pass and maintain background check requirements as directed by the Armed Services YMCA and DOD Complete Armed Services YMCA new hire training. Institutes sound accounting procedures, investment policies and financial controls. Assigns clear accountability and ensures continuous improvement. Personal Growth: Fosters a learning environment embracing diverse abilities and approaches. Creates a sense of urgency and positive tension to support change. Anticipates challenges that can sidetrack or derail growth and personal learning. Has the functional and technical knowledge and skills required to perform well; uses best practices and demonstrates up-to-date knowledge and skills in technology.     "description_text": "ARMED SERVICES YMCA of ALASKA\n Position Description\n Job Title: Teacher’s Assistant\n Reports to:  Education Director\n FLSA Status:  Full-Time /Hourly/Non-Exempt\nHourly Pay: $17.03 – $25.07 DOE\n Start Date: August  24\n ________________________________________________________________\n Basic Job Purpose :  The teacher’s assistant is responsible for maintaining a warm, healthy environment to promote the total growth and well-being of the children in the early education program.  The teacher assistant shares with the teacher in the responsibility of nurturing each child’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive growth.  The teacher’s assistant has the responsibility to assist the teacher as a team member in the daily operation of their classroom by maintaining quality early childhood education and care for all participants and insuring compliance in all state regulations and DOD Standards.\n Functions and Duties:\n Program and Services Management Assist the teacher in implementation of daily schedule/curriculum with attention to the needs of the children, including quality, health, safety, and cleanliness of environment beyond minimum regulations and requirements.\n Inform the teacher immediately when social, mental health, educational or medical services appear necessary for any child in the classroom.\n Maintain nurturing and responsive interactions with children.\n Maintain open parent communications including individual or group meetings.\n Allow flexibility in your position and schedule to ensure quality care.\n Be prepared to participate in all children’s activities, which include but are not limited to classroom activities, field trips, outdoor play, swim, gym, and family or special organizational events.\n Lead by example; encourage classroom success through modeling positive behaviors.\n Resolve conflicts when necessary to ensure a positive experience for everyone and in cooperation with the procedures established by the teacher.\n Program Tracking Maintain correct statistical data, forms and files on students, when directed by teacher.\n Facility Management Maintain appropriate classroom hygiene and cleanliness standards- which includes daily cleaning of toys and surfaces.\n Inform teacher of new equipment needs, maintenance requests and safety concerns.\n Maintain a healthy classroom environment by monitoring the safety and security of the children.\n Monitor and provide suggestions to assure playground and classrooms are maintained to the highest standards.\n Attend staff and training meetings requested by the teacher.\n Ensures supplies are requested to teacher in a timely manner\n Report unsafe conditions to teacher.  Immediately correct condition, if possible.\n Other Duties as assigned by supervisors\n Working Conditions :\n Must be able to lift and carry 40 lbs.\n Physical demands are the ability bend and stretch and be on your feet for long periods of time.\n Qualifications :\n Understand hiring is on a trial basis for 6 months and then to be re-evaluated to see if all requirements are being met.\n Must successfully complete all required training and certification required by the ASYMCA and DOD guidelines\n Must successfully pass all background checks to include Installation Record Check, State Check, Fingerprint, CNACI.\n Very good organizational and time management skills.\n Must have a positive attitude.\n Knowledge of Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.\n Post Hire Requirements :\n Pass and maintain background check requirements as directed by the Armed Services YMCA and DOD\n Complete Armed Services YMCA new hire training.\n Must have valid driver’s license and clean driving record\n YMCA COMPETENCIES:\n Mission Advancement : The incumbent shall have performed his/her duties satisfactorily when his/her staff are working at an overall good level of performance, facility care is evident, program quality and variety is in place, finances are on track, committees are meeting on time and overall image and perception of the work area is good and well liked which will relate to increased members and retention.\n Collaboration : Develops strategies to ensure staff reflect the community.
