Join Array to make a mark on our business and grow your career.
Who we need
We are seeking an experienced Structural Designer, Temporary Retail Displays to play a critical role in launching a new, high-growth temporary display business line focused on corrugated and semi-permanent retail displays. You will operate at the intersection of structural engineering and project/vendor management, translating creative concepts into cost-efficient, manufacturable packaging and display solutions. You will lead initiatives from concept through production, ensuring alignment with business objectives, technical feasibility, operational constraints, and sustainability goals. This newly created role, driven by business expansion, offers the opportunity to help shape how this function evolves from the ground up.
This is an existing, full-time vacancy in a hybrid model (minimum 4 days in-office in Scarborough). You will also travel within the GTA to collaborate with vendors on sampling and production, and may travel to the U.S. in the future.
What’s in it for you
Build and scale a new business. You will help launch and grow a net-new POP display offering with significant revenue potential, contributing directly to its success and evolution. You will play a key role in advancing packaging sustainability initiatives, influencing materials, design approaches, and environmental impact. You will have the opportunity to influence processes, vendor strategy, and engineering standards from the ground up.
End-to-end ownership. You will lead projects end-to-end from concept development and engineering through vendor coordination and final production, with meaningful ownership and accountability. You will work at the intersection of design, engineering, and operations. You will collaborate with cross-functional teams and external partners, gaining exposure to commercial strategy, manufacturing, and supplier ecosystems.
Career progression. This is a highly entrepreneurial role, ideal for someone who thrives in ambiguity, enjoys building processes, and wants to directly contribute to scaling a new revenue stream. You will work closely with senior leadership across Operations and Commercial teams, gaining visibility while solving complex, fast-turnaround design challenges for globally recognized brands. As this function grows, there is a clear path to increased ownership, specialization, or leadership, particularly in engineering standards, vendor management, or new product categories.
As our new Structural Designer, you will:
Design and engineer retail displays. You will translate creative concepts into structural packaging and temporary POP display solutions that are manufacturable, cost-effective, and aligned to retail execution requirements. You will develop technical drawings, dielines, assembly instructions, and 3D models using CAD tools, ensuring designs are optimized for real-world production.
Support vendor execution. You will work directly with external vendors to coordinate sampling, quoting, prototyping, and production, ensuring outputs meet expectations. You will travel to vendor sites as required to review samples, validate structural integrity, and support production readiness, serving as the technical lead and point of accountability during execution.
Collaborate cross-functionally. You will partner with Commercial, Design, Operations, Procurement, and Sustainability teams to refine concepts, incorporate stakeholder feedback, and ensure alignment across cost, manufacturability, and brand requirements. You will serve as the technical bridge between creative intent and operational delivery, ensuring clarity from concept through production.
Optimize cost and manufacturability. You will apply structural engineering and packaging principles to reduce material usage, improve durability, and streamline production. You will balance design intent with commercial and operational constraints identifying opportunities to improve repeatability across display programs.
Drive innovation in a new business line. You will help establish engineering standards, vendor workflows, documentation practices, and quality benchmarks for a newly launched POP display business. You will contribute to continuous improvement initiatives as the function scales, supporting the evolution of materials, processes, and supplier capabilities.
You have:
The experience. You have a background in Packaging Engineering, Industrial Design, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field, with practical experience in packaging or structural design. You are an experienced Packaging or Structural Engineer, ideally with exposure to non-food retail, cosmetics, or display-based packaging environments, where timelines are compressed and complexity is high. You are capable of independently taking a concept from brief through to production-ready execution.
The technical skills. You are proficient in CAD software such as SolidWorks, ArtiosCAD (Ardeos), AutoCAD, or equivalent platforms, and experienced in producing engineering drawings, dielines, structural models, and 3D visualizations. You are also comfortable using the Adobe Suite to create client- and vendor-facing deliverables, including PDFs, mockups, and presentation materials.
The industry knowledge. You have a strong understanding of corrugated materials, paperboard structures, and temporary retail display systems, including manufacturing processes such as die-cutting, folding, gluing, and assembly. You understand how cost drivers, material selection, and production constraints impact design decisions and final execution.
The project mindset. You are comfortable managing multiple concurrent projects, coordinating across vendors and internal stakeholders, and operating effectively in a fast-paced, ambiguous, build-and-scale environment. You bring strong organizational discipline and can maintain control of timelines, deliverables, and dependencies.
The flexibility. You are open to regular travel within the GTA for vendor engagement and site visits, and hold (or can obtain) a valid passport for potential U.S. travel.
The interpersonal skills. You possess strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to translate technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders. You are effective at building cross-functional partnerships across engineering, commercial, operations, and external vendor teams, and are known for your attention to detail, accountability, and commitment to delivering high-quality outputs in a collaborative environment.
Compensation:
The salary range for this role is $80,000-$100,000 CAD annually. Compensation is thoughtfully determined based on your experience, skill set, and alignment with our internal compensation framework. We’re always happy to answer questions about compensation throughout the hiring process.
What you can expect from the interview process:
A virtual interview with a Talent Advisor discussing your interest in the role, the team’s culture and your experience. The conversation will be recorded using BrightHire, an AI-powered video interview tool. More details will be shared when you are invited to interview.
A 30-minute virtual interview with the Hiring Manager (Senior Director, Supply Chain and Estimation) to share your experience and learn about our processes.
A 1-hour on-site panel interview with cross-functional leadership, including Operations, Commercial, and HR. This is an opportunity to discuss how your technical knowledge aligns with the needs of the organization.
Apply now.
