Description
Reports To: Director of Community Safety
Job Purpose:
To support the development and implementation of a community-based restorative process rooted in Dene values and traditions. The coordinator will co-develop the start-up, coordinate, and deliver restorative initiatives by working closely with the director of community safety, the FCSS justice supports worker, Elders, leadership, community members, and partner agencies.
Duties and Responsibilities:
Co-develop and implement a community-based restorative justice program.
Facilitate restorative justice circles (healing, sentencing, conflict resolution).
Recruit and support circle keepers and facilitators.
Liaise with RCMP, Victim Services, Corrections, Crown Prosecutors, and other partners.
Conduct community outreach and awareness activities.
Ensure Elders and cultural practices are embedded in programming.
Develop policies and procedures for a start-up department.
Track outcomes and complete reporting for funding partners.
Maintain confidential case files.
Support program growth and sustainability.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Post-Secondary education in restorative justice, social work, or related field.
Experience facilitating circles or mediation.
Experience in Indigenous or community justice settings.
Understand trauma-informed practice.
Ability to pass a Criminal Records Check, including the vulnerable sector.
Familiarity with Cold Lake First Nations community.
Dene language is an asset.
Ability to build relationships with community and partners.
Strong organizational and reporting skills.
Ability to work independently in a start-up environment.
High level of professionalism and confidentiality.
Working Conditions and/or Physical Requirements:
Office environment. Monday to Thursday 8:30am – 4:30pm, Friday 8:30am – 2:00pm.
Working hours can vary and may require a flexible schedule depending on type of assignment or work plan task.
Evening and weekend work may be required to attend meetings, events, and community engagement sessions.
