Person working this shift is responsible for ensuring accountability and</p>\n<p>accuracy of standard operations procedures in these areas. Position works under direct supervision of a</p>\n<p>Pharmacist who is responsible for the safe and proper distribution and use of drugs in inpatients and</p>\n<p>outpatients who range in age from neonates, infants <1 year old, children and adolescents ages 1-18, adults</p>\n<p>ages 19-65, and the elderly age >65. Be able to perform duties as specified in Pharmacy Technician 1 and 2</p>\n<p>Class Specifications as applicable to work unit.</p>\n<h2>Function/Duties of Position</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Prepare, mix and compound sterile medications, including chemotherapy.\n  <ul>\n   <li>Adherence to aseptic procedures when preparing, mixing and compounding sterile hazardous and non-hazardous medications.</li>\n   <li>Performs pharmaceutical calculations in verifying dosage for medications to be prepared.</li>\n   <li>Cleans and maintains primary and secondary engineering controls (e.g., vertical and laminar flow hoods) and equipment used to compound sterile hazardous and non-hazardous medications (e.g. repeater pump, work surfaces), discarding all non-preserved and/or non-labeled solutions in order to keep work area clean and orderly.</li>\n  </ul></li>\n <li><p>Assist pharmacist through performance of the following technical support activities:</p>\n  <ul>\n   <li><p>Computer order entry of inpatient and outpatient orders.</p></li>\n   <li><p>Filling unit dose medication orders.</p></li>\n   <li><p>Select ordered medications from inventory to fill new orders or to provide 24-hours medication for distribution to patient's room.</p></li>\n   <li><p>Answering telephone, filing, billing / crediting and medication profile maintenance.</p></li>\n   <li><p>Load and refill medications into automated dispensing cabinet stations.</p></li>\n   <li><p>Maintain manufacturing logs and document to ensure compliance with regulatory agencies.</p></li>\n  </ul></li>\n <li><p>Technician checkers that complete the Technician Checking Validation Program and maintain accuracy rate, as described in the Oregon Board of Pharmacy, may check medications filled by another pharmacy technician.</p></li>\n <li><p>Prioritize labels from new orders to assure that product is delivered to label location at least one hour prior to label due time.</p></li>\n <li><p>Perform Unit Dose functions including:</p>\n  <ul>\n   <li><p>Tube medications from pharmacy to hospital and clinic areas.</p></li>\n   <li><p>Repackage medications for unit dose dispensing.</p></li>\n   <li><p>Return medications to stock and perform credits.</p></li>\n   <li><p>Process narcotics for removal from Pharmacy inventory and order replacements as needed.</p></li>\n   <li><p>Maintain barcode medication integrity by ensuring medications are barcoded before leaving the pharmacy.</p></li>\n   <li>Record refrigerator temperature daily.</li>\n  </ul></li>\n <li>Perform other technician duties as assigned based on operational needs. </li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Required Qualifications</h2>\n<ul>\n <li><p>High School Diploma, </p></li>\n <li><p>Active State of Oregon Pharmacy Technician License <strong>AND</strong></p></li>\n <li><p>2 years of pharmacy work experience, or equivalent additional education; <strong>AND</strong></p></li>\n <li><p>Certification from the national Pharmacy Technician Certification Board or National Health career Association. </p></li>\n</ul>\n<p><strong>Job Related Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Competencies): </strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Ability to read and understand medical-related terms. </li>\n <li>Ability to perform basic pharmaceutical mathematics calculations. </li>\n <li>Skill at manipulating small objects, e.g., needles, syringes, ampules. </li>\n <li>Ability to use mechanical system for transfer of fluids.</li>\n <li>Knowledge of and skill at application of aseptic technique. </li>\n <li>Ability to establish priorities in workflow. </li>\n <li>Good interpersonal communication skills.</li>\n <li>Ability to work under supervision of diverse Pharmacists. </li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Preferred Qualifications</h2>\n<ul>\n <li>Formal pharmacy technician training program </li>\n <li>Inpatient and outpatient hospital pharmacy experience.</li>\n <li>Medical and scientific nomenclature </li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Additional Details</h2>\n<p>Possible exposure to hazardous chemicals and noise. Understand the difference of non-hazardous and hazardous medications; safely handle hazardous medications per regulatory guidelines. Flexibility in scheduling of shift times.
