Mount St. Joseph University is accepting applications for a full-time 12-month faculty position to join the Department of Nursing faculty team beginning 2026-2027 Academic Year. The nursing program at Mount St. Joseph has 100 years of providing high-quality nursing education to the local and regional communities of southwestern Ohio. The Mount has a rich tradition of educating caring, competent, and compassionate nurses.
The Department of Nursing at Mount St. Joseph University offers programs at the bachelor's, master's, and doctoral levels. The University seeks individuals with experience teaching traditional and adult nursing students who can teach across programs. University courses are offered in face-to-face and blended/online learning formats.
Academic rank and salary are commensurate with the applicant's qualifications and experience.

POSITION DESCRIPTION:
DEPARTMENT OF NURSING FULL-TIME
This position description applies to full-time Faculty teaching in a Pre- or Post-Licensure Course Leader or Didactic role.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
The general responsibilities of all employees are described in the Mount St. Joseph University EMPLOYEE HANDBOOK which is available on the Internet.
The specific responsibilities of all faculty in the Department of Nursing include:
THE DEPARTMENT OF NURSING:
Supports the Mission of the University and the Mission, Philosophy, and Strategic Plan of the Department of Nursing.
Participates in regular, special, and standing committees and other activities of the Department of Nursing, School of Health Sciences, and Mount St. Joseph University;
Contributes to developing, implementing, evaluating, and revising the nursing programs’ curricula, program outcomes, curriculum plans, regulatory tasks, and accreditation tasks.
Contributes to developing and revising departmental and student policies concerning administration, admission, retention, evaluation, progression, and graduation.
Assists in the development and evaluation of the Department's Strategic Plan, including budget planning and quality improvement initiatives.
Acts in accord with the Department’s professional and ethical standards as developed and enunciated by the Faculty;
Accepts leadership responsibilities within the Department;
Represents the Department of Nursing at the University and the external community levels;
Participates in the recruitment of qualified faculty and students;
Supervises the activities of teaching assistants, if utilized.
THE CLINICAL/LAB SETTING:
Collaborates with other Nursing team members to evaluate students based on course outcomes;
Facilitates integration of theory and research in clinical practice;
Makes assignments relevant to course outcomes and students’ learning needs:
Establishes and maintains a cooperative working relationship with consumers, clinical agencies, and personnel;
Communicates goals for students’ clinical practice according to specified criteria;
Evaluates the clinical agency's effectiveness in providing learning experiences for students.
THE CLASSROOM SETTING (includes all formats: in-person, blended online, online):
Selects, plans, organizes, and implements learning experiences in assigned courses which assist students to meet course and program outcomes;
demonstrates thorough knowledge of subject matter;
demonstrates ability to integrate related content areas;
uses creativity in developing an interactive learning environment;
evaluates students based on course outcomes, identifies strengths and areas needing improvement, and facilitates the development of strategies for improvement and mastery of subject area.
THE ACADEMIC ADVISING SETTING:
Interprets University, School, Department and Program policies for students;
facilitates clarification and/or validation of course requirements, Program, School, University, and agency policies when communicating with students;
posts regularly scheduled times for student conferences and advising sessions;
maintains professional boundaries and sets limits with students;
makes appropriate referrals and assists students to seek professional counseling and remedial opportunities when necessary
PROFESSIONAL COMPETENCIES:
Demonstrates knowledge of current trends in healthcare, nursing, and nursing education;
demonstrates creativity in learning strategies, assessment, and nursing practice;
actively participates in professional organizations and community activities;
demonstrates commitment to professional growth;
collaborates with colleagues in nursing and in other disciplines.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS for Faculty:
For Assistant Professor: A doctoral degree in nursing or a related field, such as a DNP, Ph.D., or EdD, from an accredited institution.
For Instructor: Master’s degree in Nursing.
A. Educational and Professional
Faculty must be academically prepared for the areas in which they teach. Academic preparation of faculty includes degree specialization, specialty coursework, or other preparation sufficient to address the major concepts included in courses they teach. Elaboration as follows.
Faculty teaching clinical and/or lab in the baccalaureate (BSN) and/or master’s (MSN-MAGELIN) program(s) are experienced in and maintain clinical expertise in the relevant clinical area. Clinical expertise may be maintained through clinical practice or other means (such as continuing education, specialty certification, and/or specialty coursework)
Faculty hold a graduate degree in nursing. A doctoral degree in nursing or a related field, such as a DNP, Ph.D., or EdD, is strongly preferred.
Faculty hold a current, unencumbered license to practice in Ohio as a registered nurse (RN). If clinical is included in the teaching responsibility and the clinical setting is outside Ohio, the Adjunct Faculty must hold a current unencumbered RN license to practice in that setting.
Membership in professional organizations is recommended.
A minimum of 2 years of registered nursing practice is required; previous registered nursing practice experience demonstrates competence in the clinical or laboratory area where the Faculty will teach. Ongoing clinical nursing practice is recommended.
Clinical nursing background includes experience in medical-surgical nursing (strongly preferred) and pediatric nursing .
Previous college/university teaching experience at both the undergraduate/graduate levels is preferred.
Previous experience with online/face-to-face/hybrid/blended learning is preferred.
