Description

As a Junior Camp Aide, you will assist with supervising campers while helping them learn life skills and participate in camp activities. Your responsibilities will include: assisting with programming and unit life for girls that may range in age from 6-17, alerting Unit Counselors and Assistant Director of Units to conflicts, and working with the camp staff team to uphold camp standards, up keep of cleanliness. Age 17 years old and up preferred. Must be comfortable working and living outdoors, have the ability to work strenuously in extreme hot and cold temperatures, able to navigate over gravel and uneven paths, dedicated to child development, enjoy problem solving, work well with others, and be full of life and energy. This is a seasonal position, housing and meals provided. Position Purpose: Junior Camp Aide are primarily working with campers and assisting in the kitchen. Junior Camp Aide are working a rotating schedule with two or three days responsible for assisting Unit Leads and Unit Counselors in teaching and carrying out activities and guiding campers in their personal growth and daily living skills, and one or two days responsible for assisting kitchen staff in the kitchen preparing the food for the camp. Essential Job Functions: Assist in the direction, supervision, and organization of campers in their living unit, within activities and throughout the camp in order to meet the intended camper outcomes. Apply basic youth development principles in working with campers through communication, relationship development, respect for diversity, involvement and empowerment of youth. Assure campers are properly supervised at all times. Be aware of and implement safety guidelines. Assist in supervising campers at least two years younger than themselves. Participate in the development and implementation of program activities for campers within the mission and outcomes. Responsible for assisting with the teaching of activities. Provide and guide girls choices for activities, meals and downtime. Actively participate in all program areas as assigned. Provide for the progression of activities within the framework of individual and group interests and abilities. Assist in program areas such as waterfront, target sports, nature, all camp activities, and arts and crafts as directed. Assist in the food service production. Assist with preparation and cooking of camp meals. Follow all summer camp food safety procedures to ensure the safest food production. Maintain high standards of health and safety in all activities for campers and staff. Provide the daily care of each camper within your supervision including recognition of personal health needs. Be alert to equipment and facilities to ensure utilization, proper care, and maintenance is adhered to; report repairs needed promptly to camp director. Be a role model to campers and staff in your attitude and behavior. Follow and uphold all safety and security rules and procedures. Set a good example to campers and others regarding general camp procedures and practices including sanitation, schedule, and sportsmanship. Other Job Duties: Contribute to verbal and written evaluations and communication as requested. Participate enthusiastically in all camp activities, planning, and leading those as assigned. Participate and complete all summer camp training modules. Assist in the setup and closure of summer camp facility and all program areas.

    "requirements_text": "Relationships:\n Build positive and supportive relationships with other staff, leaders, and girls that build trust and courage, confidence, and character to help the world to be a better place.\n Equipment Used:\n Junior Camp Aide may be asked to use walkie talkies, camera equipment, fire protection equipment, washers and dryers, dishwashers, and specialty program equipment (i.e., target sports and watercrafts).\n Qualifications: (Minimum Education and Experience)\n Must be 17 years of age.\n Must have completed CIT II.\n Must obtain or have willingness to obtain certification in First Aid/CPR/AED.\n Must submit health history prior to first day of work.\n Must be able to pass all federal, state and GSCB required background checks.\n Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:\n Understand or willingness to learn to understand the developmental needs of youth.\n Ability to or willingness to learn ability to relate to youth and adults in a positive manner.\n Ability to or willingness to learn ability to interact with all age levels and developmental needs.\n Demonstrate knowledge and skills in program areas assigned.\n Physical Aspects of the Job:\n Ability to communicate and work with groups participating (age and skill levels) and provide necessary instruction to campers and staff.\n Ability to observe camper behavior, assess its appropriateness, enforce appropriate safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior-management techniques.\n Visual and auditory ability to identify and respond to environmental and other hazards related to the activity.\n Physical ability to respond appropriately to situations requiring first aid. Must be able to assist campers in an emergency (fire, evacuation, illness, or injury) and possess strength and endurance required to maintain constant supervision of campers.\n Physical requirements prolong standing, bending, stooping, walking long distances, hiking, climbing, and stretching. Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity to manipulate outdoor equipment and camp activities; requires normal range of hearing and eyesight. Ability to lift to 50 lbs.\n Willing to live in a camp setting and work irregular hours with limited or simple equipment and facilities; and with daily exposure to the sun, heat, and animals such as bugs, snakes, bats, etc.\n Education or Experience:\n Prior camping and leadership experience is preferred\n Exposures and Environment Conditions:\n Live on site at Camp Todd in Denton, MD and Camp Country Center in Hockessin, DE during training weeks, four overnight camp weeks, and three day camp weeks.\n During the four overnight camp weeks, will require working irregular or extended hours into evenings and weekends.\n During the three day camp weeks, will require hours Monday through Friday between 7:30am and 5:30pm. Extended hours on Thursday evenings for optional camper overnight.\n Operate with daily exposure to various weather conditions and animals such as bugs, snakes, bats, raccoons, and other wilderness animals common to the area.\n While performing the duties of this job, the employee may sit or stand for prolonged periods of time, walk at a brisk pace on uneven terrain and climb stairs.
