Description
The Director of Knowledge and Innovation – Corporate (DKI) is a strategic leadership role reporting to the Chief AI & Knowledge Officer and is responsible for embedding AI and data-driven capabilities into the firm’s corporate practices to enhance attorney productivity, improve client delivery, and modernize legal workflows. This role leads and evolves a substantial, multidisciplinary team of Knowledge & Innovation professionals, including K&I lawyers serving as subject matter experts across the corporate practice groups. The Director is responsible for setting direction, aligning priorities, and ensuring the team delivers high-impact, practice-integrated solutions. The Director partners closely with practice leadership, innovation teams, and training functions to operationalize corporate data, enable scalable AI use cases, and drive sustained adoption of new technologies across legal workflows.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Lead, manage, and develop a corporate Knowledge & Innovation team, including K&I lawyers functioning as subject matter experts across key areas of the corporate practices. Set strategic direction and priorities for the team, ensuring alignment with practice group needs and firm innovation objectives.
Define and implement an operating model that leverages both legal domain expertise (SMEs) and innovation capabilities to deliver practical, high-impact solutions. Drive professional development, role clarity, and effective deployment of team resources across initiatives. Establish clear accountability for outcomes, ensuring consistent delivery against key priorities. Define and lead corporate data strategies, including identifying, structuring, and operationalizing key datasets. Partner with corporate practice groups to identify, prioritize, and implement high-value AI use cases across core workflows such as diligence, drafting, and deal execution. Translate legal processes into scalable, AI-enabled solutions that integrate into day-to-day practice. Leverage the expertise of K&I lawyer SMEs to ensure solutions are grounded in deep practice knowledge and aligned with how legal work is actually performed. Collaborate with the firm’s innovation and pilot teams to design and execute pilots aligned with practice priorities. Partner with the firm’s training function to design and deliver role-specific, workflow-based AI training programs Serve as a primary liaison between corporate practice leadership, Knowledge & Innovation, and firm innovation teams. Ensure alignment between AI initiatives, data strategy, and business objectives. Cultivate strategic partnerships with client legal operations teams to exchange insights on Knowledge & Information services and technology. Proactively collaborate to deeply understand their unique business challenges, and co-create innovative, tailored solutions that drive efficiency, mitigate risks, and deliver measurable value. Critically evaluate the increasingly complex vendor and technology landscape to identify products that may be of benefit to the firm and its clients.
