Description
DENTIST - HEALTHNET BLOOMINGTON - FORMERLY VOLUNTEERS IN MEDICINE - BILINGUAL PREFERRED
This position exists to provide a broad range of dental services for patients. The incumbent provides evaluation and treatment of various diseases, injuries, and malformations of the gums and related oral structures.
Essential Functions
Clinical Practice:
Examines and evaluates patients to determine nature of condition utilizing x-rays, mouth mirrors, explorers, and various other diagnostic procedures and instruments. Determines and provides required preventive dental treatment and maintenance services for patients. Based on evaluation of patient, determines when referral to a specialist is indicated. Performs final checks of x-rays and cleaning performed by hygienist.
Dental Procedures:
Performs restorative techniques for patients including fillings, crowns, temporary resin, full/partial dentures, bonding, etc. Provides comprehensive dental care under anesthetic as determined by Indiana State law.
Documentation:
Records all treatments performed for patients. Determines any changes in the health history of the patient pertaining to heart, blood pressure, respiratory, and drug therapy changes. Maintains general records.
Supervision:
Provides supervision for the support staff.
Quality Assurance:
Participates in quality assurance mechanisms as assigned. Incorporates continuous quality improvement principles into the improvement and operation of work processes. Confers with dental staff on a regular basis regarding methods for improving dental services.
Physical Accountabilities:
Works mainly inside in a normal dental office environment. Able to be involved in varying degrees of prolonged standing, walking, sitting, bending, squatting, and stooping; as well as abilities of repeated bending, stooping and squatting. Able to lift, push, and/or pull equipment, light to moderately heavy weight is a necessary function of this position. Must be able to position and move patients following safety standards. Able to perform duties during periods of varied and/or prolonged work hours. Will be exposed to all patient elements. Must have good eyesight with or without correction (20/30). Must be able to read, write, hear, and communicate effectively in the English language by both orally and written.

QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:
Requires Indiana licensure or intern permit.
Requires CPR Certification.
Requires DEA and CSR Certifications.
Requires DDS or DMD degree from an accredited dental school.
Requires ability to understand basic clinic practices; techniques; and methods.
Requires excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Requires ability to work as part of a team.
Requires ability to resolve issues in a positive fashion.
Prefers clinical experience.
EVALUATION OF PERFORMANCE:
The Dentist will receive annual performance evaluations that rate job performance in accordance with HealthNet vision, mission, policies and procedures. The evaluations may include, but not be limited to, performance of many of the specific skills and abilities noted above. The Dentist is expected to present an exemplary professional image; maintain a positive attitude toward work and HealthNet; display a willingness to accept and complete assigned job responsibilities and duties; demonstrate the ability to independently exercise judgment, supervise staff if applicable, and complete all phases of assigned tasks or projects; and serve as a positive role model for other HealthNet staff.
