role
About The Role
As an Occupational Therapist in our Rehab Services department, you will provide evidence-based, patient-centered care to help individuals regain or enhance their ability to perform meaningful daily activities. In this salaried, full-time role, you will work as part of an interdisciplinary team to assess functional abilities, develop individualized treatment plans, and implement therapeutic interventions that support patients’ physical, cognitive, and psychosocial needs. You will collaborate closely with physicians, nurses, physical and speech therapists, social workers, and family members to promote optimal outcomes, safe discharge planning, and long-term functional independence.
What You'll Do
Conduct comprehensive occupational therapy evaluations, including assessment of functional abilities, activities of daily living (ADLs), instrumental activities of daily living (IADLs), cognition, perception, coordination, and psychosocial status. Develop and implement individualized treatment plans and goals based on clinical findings, best practices, and patient-centered objectives. Provide direct occupational therapy interventions such as therapeutic exercises, manual techniques, neuromuscular re-education, cognitive and perceptual training, ADL retraining, and use of adaptive equipment and assistive technology. Train and educate patients, families, and caregivers on home programs, safety techniques, adaptive strategies, and use of equipment to support carryover and independence outside of the clinical setting. Collaborate with the interdisciplinary rehab team to coordinate care, participate in care conferences, and contribute to discharge planning and recommendations for ongoing services or support. Assess the need for, recommend, and train patients in the use of durable medical equipment, orthotics, splints, and environmental modifications. Document evaluations, treatment sessions, progress notes, and discharge summaries accurately and timely in accordance with departmental policies, professional standards, and regulatory requirements. Monitor patient progress, adjust treatment plans, and update goals based on clinical outcomes and patient feedback. Educate patients and families about condition management, injury prevention, energy conservation, joint protection, and health promotion strategies. Contribute to quality improvement initiatives, program development, and practice standardization within the Rehab Services department. Maintain a safe treatment environment by following infection control, safety, and emergency procedures. Supervise, mentor, or provide guidance to occupational therapy assistants, students, and support staff as assigned. Participate in continuing education, in-service trainings, and professional development activities to maintain and enhance clinical competence. Uphold professional, ethical, and regulatory standards while representing the organization with integrity and compassion.
Qualifications
Current license (or eligibility for licensure) as an Occupational Therapist in the state of practice. Master’s degree or higher in Occupational Therapy from an accredited occupational therapy program. Certification by the National Board for Certification in Occupational Therapy (NBCOT), or eligibility to obtain certification as required. Demonstrated clinical experience in a rehabilitation setting (acute care, inpatient rehab, outpatient, skilled nursing, or home health), or relevant fieldwork experience for new graduates. Strong knowledge of occupational therapy principles, evidence-based interventions, and applicable professional standards of practice. Ability to perform comprehensive assessments and develop individualized, measurable treatment goals and plans. Proficiency in documenting clinical findings and treatment in an electronic medical record (EMR) system or willingness to learn. Effective communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to collaborate within an interdisciplinary team and interact with patients and families from diverse backgrounds. Strong organizational, time management, and critical thinking skills with the ability to manage a full caseload and prioritize patient needs. Ability to safely perform physical requirements of the job, including assisting with patient transfers and mobility, and positioning equipment as needed. Commitment to patient-centered care, professional ethics, and continuous quality improvement. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or ability to obtain within organizational timeframe, as required by the facility.
