At the Stantec Butler, Pennsylvania office, we primarily design and assist in construction of buildings for: hospitals, universities, high schools, lab buildings, and transportation hubs.
Your Opportunity
In this position as a Co-op Student, you will have the opportunity to work as part of a team of engineers and technologists on multiple projects for a range of public and private sector clients. This is a great opportunity for a motivated, energetic individual who wants to challenge their abilities in a dynamic work environment. The role of a Co-op Student is to perform a variety of selected tasks and assignments to continue to develop knowledge and skills within the HVAC disciplines. Assignments will require good technical understanding of the basics. Work performed will be under the direct supervision of a Senior Technician or Engineer. The co-op student will assist the HVAC design team in the daily design activities for various projects. These activities will include reviewing and understanding drawings, preparing design calculations, and drafting engineered mark-ups into Revit design program for various systems. These systems include domestic water, drainage, natural gas, compressed air, and medical gas systems; as well as mechanical calculations, computer assisted drafting, and code analysis. There will be opportunities to be on construction sites and attend field meetings with the design engineer to observe construction progress and complete field observations.
A student will have the opportunity to work closely with mechanical engineers on the design of HVAC systems for a variety of building types, including hospitals, laboratories, schools, office buildings and more. Tasks may include Co-ops will have an opportunity to work collaboratively with professional architects, interior designers, and all disciplines of MEP engineers to create and document full building designs. Students will also have the opportunity to accompany senior staff to construction sites and pre-design site visits. Students will be able to choose their preference on HVAC work, depending on workload and project needs throughout their co-op time at Stantec.
Qualifications
Your Key Responsibilities
Prepare contract drawings, specifications, schedules, details and sketches from conceptual design through to construction
Facilitate and ensure the quality of the project deliverables
Follow production guidelines and project standards in the department drafting standards manual
Providing CAD drafting and design assistance for a wide variety of projects, from report stage through design and construction administration
Assisting in resolution of technical issues on construction sites
You will be expected to support team operations and play an integral part in the promotion of our health and safety culture
Coordinates with other professionals on assigned projects
Your Capabilities and Credentials
Self-motivated individual with strong communication skills and experience using Excel and Revit
Creative thinker with a strong interest in applied thermodynamics and construction
Education and Experience
Working toward a Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Mechanical Engineering.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather.

Pay Transparency: In compliance with pay transparency laws, pay ranges are provided for positions in locations where required. Please note, the final agreed upon compensation is based on individual education, qualifications, experience, and work location. At Stantec certain roles are bonus eligible. Actual compensation for part-time roles will be pro-rated based on the agreed number of working hours per week.
Benefits Summary: Regular full-time and part-time employees (working at least 20 hours per week) have access to medical, dental, and vision plans, a wellness program, health saving accounts, flexible spending accounts, 401(k) plan, employee stock purchase program, life and accidental death & dismemberment (AD&D) insurance, short-term/long-term disability plans, emergency travel benefits, tuition reimbursement, professional membership fee coverage and paid family leave. Regular full-time and part-time employees will receive ten paid holidays in each calendar year. In addition, employees will be eligible to accrue vacation between 10 and 20 days per year and eligible for paid sick leave (and if more generous, in accordance with state and local law).
Temporary/casual employees have access to 401(k) plans, employee stock purchase program, and paid leave, in accordance with state and local law.
