We work with our 11 First Nation community partners and the IFC in the provision of primary health care, traditional healing, mental wellness and addictions, home and community support services, and health promotion services.
The opportunity:
Reporting to the Director of Mental Health & Addictions, the Nurse Practitioner – Virtual Mental Health & Addictions provides high‑quality, culturally safe mental health and addictions care for clients served by Maamwesying North Shore Community Health Services Inc. and the HART Hub. Using a strengths‑based, evidence‑informed approach, the NP delivers both virtual and in‑person clinical services that support the holistic wellbeing of individuals, families, and communities.
The NP conducts comprehensive assessments, provides episodic and addictions-focused care, and collaborates closely with the Minobimaadizing team, primary care providers, and interdisciplinary partners to ensure seamless, client‑centered continuity of care across MNSCHS communities.
Success in this role requires strong clinical expertise grounded in cultural humility, trauma‑informed practice, and an understanding of Indigenous health perspectives. The NP actively contributes to case planning, case conferencing, quality improvement initiatives, and maintains high standards of documentation and professional practice.
This opportunity is well suited for a clinician committed to community-based care, comfortable working across virtual and in‑person settings, and motivated to advance innovative, accessible, and culturally grounded mental wellness and addictions services across the region.
What you need to bring with you:
A Bachelor’s degree in Nursing and a Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner Certificate. Master's degree preferred.
Must be member in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario.
Three to five years’ work-related work experience.
Knowledge and experience with all stages of substance abuse from intoxication through withdrawal, and maintenance for all commonly abused substances (alcohol, opioids, nicotine, marijuana, and cocaine).
Excellent communication, interpersonal and teaching skills.
Sensitivity to the needs of a multicultural community and diverse populations.
Experience in primary care settings (community-based preferred).
Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a multi-disciplinary team environment.
Suboxone trained (or eligible to complete)
Methadone course (or eligible to complete).
Experience working with Regional or Indigenous services, and health planning committees.
Knowledge of data collection analysis, policy development and program planning.
Ability to multi-task, organize multiple projects and programs.
Demonstrated competence in conflict resolution.
Knowledge of Anishinabek Health and Traditional health practices.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
