Position Title: Medical Assistant Position Code: MA-XXXX
Department: Physician Services Oracle Code: MA-XXXX
Reports to: Clinic Manager/Nursing Director Safety Sensitive: ☒ Yes ☐ No
Exempt Status: ☐ Yes ☒ No
Position Purpose:
All KHI employees are expected to perform their respective tasks and duties in such a way that supports KHI’s vision to be among the kindest, highest quality health systems in the country.
Key Responsibilities
Responsible for patient care under the direct supervision (in the office suite or exam room) of a Physician, Physician Assistant, or Nurse Practitioner. Responsible for maintaining all applicable KHI Policies and Procedures. Escorts patients to exam room and prepares patient for exam including vital signs, history, and reason for seeking care. Cross trains in data entry, balancing of accounts, charges fees and collect payments due. Schedules/confirms appointments. Maintains and facilitates communication between patients, family and clinical staff. Reports as necessary to Public Health at direction of provider. Maintains work area including exam rooms, supplies, medication and immunizations. Performs CLIA waived lab tests and obtains specimens; performs proficiency testing and runs controls for waived tests; may perform venipuncture. Performs other duties as assigned. Qualifications
Education: High School diploma or Equivalent.
Must also meet one of the following criteria:
☐ Attended an approved medical assistant training program, a copy of the diploma or transcripts are on file, by one of the following:
a. The Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs; or
b. The Accrediting Bureau of Health Education Schools
☐ Attended an unapproved training program and successfully passes the medical assistant examination administered by a certifying organization accredited by either the National Commission for Certifying Agencies or the American National Standards Institute and a copy of that certification is on file.
☐ Directly supervised by the same physician, physician group, or physician assistant for a minimum of 2000 hours prior to February 2000. (Letter from physician, physician group, or physician assistant must be on file)
☐ Completed a medical services training program of the Armed Forces of the United States and a copy of that certificate is on file.
☐ C ompleted an unapproved medical assistant training program and was employed as a medical assistant after program completion, prior to February of 2000.
Licensure: None
Certification: BLS through the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
The following Departments/Clinics also require DPS Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card :

Skills and Knowledge:
Able to communicate effectively with others; manage multiple priorities and tasks, to maintain attention to detail. Able to recognize and respond appropriately to urgent/emergent situations per protocol. Knowledge of/ able to implement direct care, newborn through geriatric. Knowledge of/able to use basic medical terminology. Preferences
Experience: One to two years’ experience as a medical assistant in a clinical outpatient setting.

Category I : Expected duties have routine potential for exposure to blood, body fluids or tissues Other potential hazard(s): possible exposure to chemical, biological and radioactive substances; possible exposure to hostile individuals. Work Requirements
Must be able to distinguish appropriate colors. Incumbent must be able to consistently reach and/or work above and below shoulder level; lift up to 50 pounds. Able to walk/be on feet 90% of day with frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, standing. Able to sit at desk 10% of day; communicate using telephone.
