Job Description The CIS, with a focus on patient safety, is required to function within the parameters of the legal scope of practice and in accordance with the federal, state, and local laws; rules and regulations; and policies, procedures and guidelines of the employing health care institution or practice setting. The CIS functions under his or her own education, licensure and/or certification and assumes accountability and responsibility for quality of care provided to patients and their families according to the standards of practice. The CIS demonstrates responsibility for continued competence in practice, and develops insight through reflection, self-analysis, self-care, and lifelong learning. SHIFT AND SCHEDULE Full Time, Monday-Friday, 6:00am- 2:30pm, with Call ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS/PERFORMANCE EXPECTATIONS Scope of Practice - A cardiovascular invasive specialist completes a wide variety of duties on a day-to-day basis. They work regularly with many members of a health care team, including physicians, surgeons, and nurses. They also work closely with patients of all ages who experience heart-related conditions and complications. Practices technology founded upon theoretical knowledge and concepts, uses equipment and accessories consistent with the purposes for which they were designed, and employs procedures and techniques appropriately. Assesses situations; exercises care, discretion, and judgment; assumes responsibility for professional decisions; and acts in the best interest of the patient. Acts as an agent through observation and communication to obtain pertinent information for the physician to aid in the diagnosis and treatment of the patient and recognizes that interpretation and diagnosis are outside the scope of practice for the profession. Uses equipment and accessories, employs techniques and procedures, performs services in accordance. with an accepted standard of practice and demonstrates expertise in minimizing radiation exposure to the patient, self, and other members of the healthcare team. Prepares patients and equipment for cardiac, endovascular/vascular, electrophysiology and/or cardiothoracic related diagnostic and interventional procedures. Assist in performing common interventions including management of stents, catheters, balloons, intravascular ultrasound, balloon pump, ventricular assist devices, fluoroscopy and imaging systems. Knowledge and ability to apply complex invasive cardiac, vascular, and cardiothoracic principles, instrumentation, and techniques for both minimally invasive procedures, and open procedures. Knowledge of cardiovascular and cardiothoracic anatomy and physiology. Perform pre- and post-procedure monitoring and answers patient(s) and family member(s) related questions regarding their care. EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE A graduate of a certified or degree granting program or post-secondary educational program in a health science related non-nursing field which may include, but is not limited to one of the following: Cardiovascular Technology Ultrasound Respiratory Therapy Paramedic/EMT Other allied health professional degrees or certifications may be considered but not guaranteed Preferred to actively pursue Cardiovascular (CV) certification/registry while employed. Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) preferred within 6 months. Required to complete six (6) hours of hospital provided continuing education upon hire and annually for Advanced Sterile Processing Certification. Education will focus on the standards of practice in instrument decontamination, transportation, and reprocessing. CIS deemed competent to reprocess transesophageal echocardiogram probes will be required to complete one (1) additional hour of annual education and competency evaluation as part of this process. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential responsibility satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. The individual must be able to: Stand, walk, sit, stoop, reach, lift, see, speak and hear. Lifting is limited to 35 lbs. for clinical staff and to 50 lbs. for non-clinical staff. The individual must use an assisted-lift device or get another individual(s) to assist with the lift that is over these maximum limits.
