    "description": "<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Job Title:</span>  ELS Substitute Associate Instructor </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Reporting to:</span> Academic Director</p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Location:</span> Philadelphia, PA</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Description</span></p>\n<p> The ESL Substitute Associate Instructor is responsible for planning, teaching and evaluating assigned classes in accordance with the ELS curriculum, to mainly adult students, with assistance from the AD, Instructional Specialists and Senior Instructors; for maintaining student class records; for fulfilling administrative duties as required and/or requested by the AD; and for participating in professional development activities such as workshops, meetings and assisting Instructors.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Essential Job Functions</span></p>\n<p>The ESL Substitute Instructor is specifically responsible for performing the following duties:</p>\n<p>The ESL Substitute Associate Instructor is usually called in to substitute in emergency situations for less than a full day.</p>\n<ul>\n<li>To teach SSP (Structure/Speaking Practice), Vocabulary Enrichment, Reading/Writing, LTC (Language Technology Center) and/or Skills Enhancement Classes (SECs) as assigned.</li>\n<li>To prepare lesson plans, exercises and tests.</li>\n<li>To test, evaluate and counsel the student regarding his/her classroom performance.</li>\n<li>To maintain a classroom environment conducive to learning.</li>\n<li>To coordinate instruction, attendance records and evaluation with other teachers.</li>\n<li>To know and adhere to Center and Company policy and procedures, and to communicate local policy to Associate Instructors.</li>\n<li>To complete administrative paperwork as required or requested.</li>\n<li>To maintain performance and attendance records.</li>\n<li>To maintain Center resource materials and files.</li>\n<li>To observe other teachers, as suggested by the AD, for purposes of professional development and to be observed in all facets of the program.</li>\n<li>To participate in administrative meetings and professional development activities.</li>\n<li>To participate in the employee evaluation process (i.e., classroom observations and follow-up discussions and the performance appraisal process).</li>\n<li>To provide Associate Instructors with assistance.</li>\n<li>To develop and/or refine teaching materials at the local level.</li>\n<li>To participate in activities during the Instructor's scheduled class hours and, when requested, to disseminate information about after-class activities.</li>\n<li>To contribute to the maintenance of neat classrooms and a neat staff workroom and staff lounge.</li>\n<li>To substitute in emergency situations for less than a full day (assuming the Instructor is not already teaching a full day) when there are no reasonable alternatives available to the AD.Experience teaching adult and young adult students is necessary in this position.</li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Education Required:</span></p>\n<p>Bachelors or better in English or related field.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Preferred:</span></p>\n<p>Certificate or better in CELTA or related field.</p>\n<p>Certificate or better in TESOL or related field.</p>\n<p>Masters or better in Applied Linguistics or related field.</p>\n<p>Masters or better in TESOL or related field.</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Salary: </span>$23.50 - $30.75 per hour</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Experience: </span></p>\n<p>A minimum of 6 months of ESL teaching experience for those who do not have an MA in TESOL or CELTA.</p>\n<ul>\n<li>All ELS employees must be a minimum of 18 years of age.<br></li>\n</ul>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Qualifications</span></p>\n<p>Education</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Preferred:</span></p>\n<p>Qualifying Certificate or better.</p>\n<p>Qualifying Masters or better.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><span><span>Contact Information: </span></span></span><span> </span></p>\n<p><span> </span><span><span>While we thank all applicants</span><span>, only </span><span>those</span><span> who are </span><span>shortlisted</span><span> will be contacted.</span></span><span> </span></p>\n<p><span> </span></p>\n<p><span> </span><span style=\"font-weight: bold\"><span><span>About </span><span>ELS</span></span></span><br><span> </span></p>\n<p><span><span>Since 1961, when ELS Educational Services opened its first school in Washington DC, ELS has developed a global reputation for delivering top-quality English language programs.
