Description

The Clinical Nurse reflects the mission, vision, and values of HealthNet, adheres to the organization's Code of Ethics and Corporate Compliance, and complies with all relevant policies, procedures, guidelines and all other regulatory and accreditation standards. The registered professional clinical nurse (RN) is accountable and responsible for the provision and coordination of competent, evidence-based care, which includes assessment, diagnosis, outcome identification, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The clinical nurse participates in decision-making, teaching, mentoring, and collaboration with the multidisciplinary team to advance the patient plan of care, achieve outcomes and enhance operational efficiency. The nurse adheres to the ANA Scope and Standards of Professional Nursing and the Code of Ethics for Nurses with Interpretive Statements. Essential Functions Possesses clinical expertise: Employs a combination of education, experience and environmental awareness that provides high quality, person-centered care to patients. Ensures continuity of care. Integrates complexities surrounding the health of a patient by interpreting, analyzing and shaping information into a complete, holistic picture. Demonstrates and applies clinical reasoning. Delegates in accordance with applicable legal and policy parameters. Recognizes when there is a need for further intervention and escalates appropriately. Consults appropriate resources and experts when needed. Pursues and obtains baccalaureate education. Pursues and obtains Magnet recognized certification, when eligible. Embraces learning: Demonstrates a commitment to lifelong learning for continued professional growth and education reflecting knowledge and understanding of current nursing practice. Shares knowledge and expertise with team members, patients, and students through coaching, mentoring and precepting. Mentors new nurses to their role. Accountable for keeping current with evolving evidence and knowledge by continuously demonstrating the ability to apply new knowledge into practice. Advances clinical expertise from novice to expert through pursuit of formal and informal educational opportunities. Has a spirit of inquiry: Identifies practice questions that can be answered by nursing research. Identifies opportunities for evaluating best practices to ensure evidence-based care and guide practice. Identifies opportunities for continuous process improvement. Incorporates evidence when instating changes in nursing practice. Participates in the formulation of evidence-based practice through research. Is professionally engaged: Accountable to shape nursing’s professional identity as an individual nurse, as a HealthNet nurse and as a profession. Maintains professional engagement by through leading self, skills acquisition and keeping current. Influences practice and policy to improve the quality of health care at HealthNet. Is a member of a professional organization or participates on a HealthNet committee or board, taskforce or LEAN initiative. Assumes responsibility and accountability for meeting internal (i.e. learning requirements, performance management, CPR, health requirements, etc.) and external regulatory, accreditation and compliance standards. Exemplifies professional image in appearance, communication and attitude. Participates in the development of policies, procedures, guidelines and systems to support safe, effective, efficient care and to advance nursing practice. Demonstrates accountability to HealthNet’s strategic and operational goals. Fosters relationships: Initiates and promotes safe healing environments by establishing a caregiver-patient partnership that is built on mutual trust, respect, empathy and communication to meet the unique needs of each patient family. Serves as a care partner with patients, families and the multidisciplinary team. Fosters an environment of inclusivity, recognizing and valuing diversity of thought and perspective. Uses culturally congruent practice competence and leadership skills to support care delivery in which the patient is at the center all conversations. QUALIFICATIONS/KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES: Requires an Associates of Nursing (ASN); Bachelors of Nursing (BSN) preferred. New ASN RNs hired after January 1, 2013, will be required to complete their BSN within 5 years from date of hire into this job. Requires that the RN has graduated from a nationally accredited nursing program. Requires current state of Indiana license as Registered Nurse. Requires Basic Life Support certification through the AHA. Other advanced life support certifications may be required per unit/department specialty according to patient care policies. EVALUATION OF PERFORMANCE: The Clinical Nurse will receive annual performance evaluations that rate job performance in accordance with HealthNet vision, mission, policies and procedures. The evaluations may include, but not be limited to, performance of many of the specific skills and abilities noted above. The Clinical Nurse is expected to present an exemplary professional image; maintain a positive attitude toward work and HealthNet; display a willingness to accept and complete assigned job responsibilities and duties; demonstrate the ability to independently exercise judgment, supervise staff if applicable, and complete all phases of assigned tasks or projects; and serve as a positive role model for other HealthNet staff.
