    "description": "<h2>Overview</h2>\n<p>Substance abuse assessment, treatment and referrals will be provided to those recently released from state prisons through the Day Reporting Center in the Alabama Pardons and Parole office.  Former inmates come typically everyday to receive services such as GED preparation, substance abuse and mental health treatment, or assistance with employment. </p>\n<h2>Responsibilities</h2>\n<p><strong>Essential Functions</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Provide effective clinical evaluation in completing the Human Services Needs Assessment</li>\n <li>Formulate appropriate Case Plans along with the consumer to document each goal/problem and how it will be addressed within one week of completing the HSNA</li>\n <li>Provide advocacy and referrals to community resources to assist consumers in advancing towards recovery and re-entry</li>\n <li>Provide didactic groups designed to teach skills and monitor consumer progress in recovery and re-entry</li>\n <li>Provide monitoring services to consumers towards progress/achievement of goals.</li>\n <li>Effectively collaborates with team members and other service providers in the delivery of clinical services.</li>\n <li>Assist in evaluating consumers for discharge planning</li>\n <li>Effectively interacts and corresponds with Alabama pardons and parole staff</li>\n <li>Adheres to professional code of ethics</li>\n <li>Will work closely with the treatment team to identify needed educational/skill development groups</li>\n <li>Will provide services, including groups, to meet identified needs of consumers (budgeting, parenting, job interview skills, etc.)</li>\n <li>Will utilize the Case Management sign-out sheet</li>\n <li>Will offer/provide GED tutoring to consumers</li>\n <li>Will provide services to consumers whether they are active in group or not</li>\n <li>Will involve community resources to provide sober, social or educational activities</li>\n <li>Will model good time management for consumers by being on time for work</li>\n <li>Will document progress notes in such a way as to reflect the consumer’s treatment goals.</li>\n <li>Will complete the Case Management enrollment on the same day as the Case Plan </li>\n <li>Seeks clinical supervision and consultation as needed</li>\n <li>Accepts and employs suggestions for improvement</li>\n <li>Actively works to enhance clinical skills </li>\n <li>Document services provided in a timely manner per AltaPointe policy</li>\n <li>Maintain current weekly progress notes, group notes, and weekly summary reports system.</li>\n <li>Effectively manage caseload based on consumer’s needs</li>\n <li>Meet AltaPointe Health System productivity standards</li>\n</ul>\n<h2>Qualifications</h2>\n<p>Bachelor degree in a mental health discipline; certification of substance abuse (SA) case management training by Alabama Department of Mental Health (DMH).</p>\n<p> </p>\n<p><strong>knowledge in substance abuse and mental illness specialties, outlined below, to be obtained within six (6) months of employment:</strong></p>\n<ul>\n <li>Knowledge of the nature of addiction and psychiatric disorders</li>\n <li>Knowledge of gender specific issues relative to addiction</li>\n <li>Knowledge of substance abuse treatment principles</li>\n <li>Knowledge of the 12-step support groups such as AA, NA, CA, and other self-help groups for co-occurring disordered adults</li>\n <li>Knowledge of criminogenic needs, definition and risk factors</li>\n <li>Understand the dynamics of co-dependency of addicted individuals, denial, manipulation and other typical behaviors of these consumers</li>\n <li>Understand the signs and symptoms of active mental illness and has the information and skills to address crisis intervention or intervention needs</li>\n <li>Understand the behavioral, psychological, physical health, and social effects of psychoactive drugs, including alcohol and tobacco, on the consumer and significant others</li>\n <li>Knowledge of helping strategies for reducing the negative effects of substance abuse dependency and how to tailor strategies and treatment modalities to the consumers’ stages of dependency, change or recovery</li>\n <li>Knowledge of medical and pharmaceutical resources in the treatment of addictive and mental illness diseases</li>\n <li>Knowledge of cultural diversity</li>\n <li>Knowledge of the risk for illnesses among IV drug users such as HIV/AIDS and T.B.</li>\n <li>Knowledge of the criminal justice system including court hearings, judges, court referral officers, probation officers, and jail diversion</li>\n <li>Knowledge of HIV/AIDS education, counseling and testing</li>\n <li>Knowledge of behavioral management and crisis intervention</li>\n</ul>",
