    "description": "<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Job Title</span>: Veterinary Assistant</p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Employment</span>: Hourly, Non-Exempt</p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">Reports To</span>: Veterinary Supervisor</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">SUMMARY:</span></p>\n<p>The Veterinary Assistant plays a vital role in providing high-quality medical care to the animals under our care. This position involves working closely with the staff veterinarian to deliver comprehensive veterinary services including (but not limited to) diagnostics, treatments and surgical assistance. The ideal candidate is skilled in veterinary care, possesses excellent communication abilities and is passionate about animal welfare. If this describes you, we have a fantastic opportunity to join our team.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">SFAHS CORE VALUES</span>:</p>\n<p>Compassion, Community Responsibility, Innovation, Inclusivity, Transparency</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:</span></p>\n<p>· Administer daily medications to a variety of animals</p>\n<p>· Display proper animal handling and restraint techniques</p>\n<p>· Perform medical examinations</p>\n<p>· Diagnose and carry out treatment and reassessments for under DVM supervision</p>\n<p>· Write medical SOPs and manage proper record keeping</p>\n<p>· Perform a variety of diagnostics</p>\n<p>· Perform surgical prep and anesthesia monitoring for a variety of surgical procedures</p>\n<p>· Uphold proper cleaning and sterilization protocols of medical areas and equipment</p>\n<p>· Provide general animal hygiene maintenance (i.e. ear cleanings, nail trims etc.)</p>\n<p>· Fill medications</p>\n<p>· Administer vaccinations as needed</p>\n<p>· Perform/Assist with humane euthanasia procedures</p>\n<p>· Utilize proper documentation of controlled substances</p>\n<p>· Follow and enforce SFAHS safety guidelines and procedures</p>\n<p>· Answer uncomplicated medical questions from adopter, staff and volunteers</p>\n<p>· Provide quality customer assistance</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND EXPECTATIONS</span>:</p>\n<p>· Must have high comfort level with animal handling and restraint</p>\n<p>· Have/have the ability to be rabies vaccinated</p>\n<p>· Basic comfort level with administering medications (oral, topical and injectable)</p>\n<p>· Basic knowledge of canine and feline anatomy</p>\n<p>· Ability to work in a fast paced environment and quick decision making</p>\n<p>· Attention to detail</p>\n<p>· Critical thinking skills</p>\n<p>· Must have and maintain valid driver’s license with good driving record.</p>\n<p>· Regularly exerting 50 pounds of force to lift or move animals/objects</p>\n<p>· Moderate/High amounts of walking, standing, lifting, crouching, balancing, reaching and other repetitive motions required</p>\n<p>· Mostly inside work, some outside work and temperature changes involved.</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:</span></p>\n<p>· Animal handling experience required</p>\n<p>· Basic medical knowledge required</p>\n<p>· Shelter medicine knowledge preferred</p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">COMPENSATION:</span></p>\n<p>This position starts at $16 per hour (dependent upon experience) paid on a biweekly basis. </p>\n<p><br></p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: bold\">BENEFITS:</span></p>\n<p>SFAHS provides full-time team members with a comprehensive benefits package.
