Position: Senior Laboratory Technologist
Dept.: Laboratory Medicine & Genetics – Point of Care testing

Job Description:
Acts as the technical resource in specialty and provides ongoing expertise to ensure quality of results and adherence to regulations and standards. Ensures performance and submission of external quality control data and reviews results. Evaluates requests for new POCT programs and, in collaboration with the manager, identifies, assesses, and implements new testing technologies and methodologies aligned with best practices. Facilitates the validation and implementation of new instrumentation. Responsible for customer support and coordination of resources to support clinical programs, including identifying opportunities for process improvement and implementing improvement initiatives. Trains POCT operators and laboratory staff and facilitates initial and ongoing training and competency assessment. Function as liaison between the laboratory, vendors, and clinical staff to resolve problems and improve processes. Coordinates equipment troubleshooting, repair, calibration, and maintenance and communicates issues to Manager. Provides statistical summaries to Manager and Director regarding workload and performance indicators. Supports the manager in managing inventory and monitoring the budget within discipline. Responsible for authoring and reviewing controlled documents. Works in conjunction with other team members to prioritize, co-ordinate and complete area workload. Actively participates in continuing education to possess current knowledge and technical expertise. Rotates through bench work to support team for approximately 50% of scheduled shifts. Amount of bench shifts can fluctuate based on operational needs. This can include different shifts – evenings, nights. Other duties as assigned. Qualifications:
Current C.M.L.T.O. Minimum of 5 years of experience in a Hospital Laboratory Point of Care certificate or continuing education courses an asset Demonstrated understanding of Quality Management Systems Demonstrated leadership ability in a team environment. Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication (written and oral) skills Strong computer skills Demonstrated commitment to recent Continuing Education Strong, demonstrated commitment to enhancing the quality and sustainability of laboratory services including customer satisfaction.
