Description

Summary Job Description Covenant Day School’s lower school CREATE Jr. teacher’s assistant enjoys working with children and partnering with the lead teacher in support of the school’s mission. The role includes providing classroom support to students and the lead teacher for the lower school restoration and sustainability class that is provided to students in first to 5 th grades as a highly active, hands-on class weekly special course. The CREATE Jr. classroom functions as the lower school integration of the school’s Restoration and Sustainability program. As such, CREATE Jr. acts as a hands-on workshop for STEM learning in the lower school, with the aim of purposeful, practical learning. Reporting to the lower school principal with daily oversight by the CREATE Jr. lead teacher, the assistant position is hourly (non-exempt) and serves approximately 25 hours each week when the CREATE Jr. class meets. The typical schedule will likely be 10 am to 3 pm, and the role will begin in August 2026. At Covenant Day School, our vision is to transform hearts and minds for the glory of Jesus Christ. Essential Functions and Responsibilities Duties include: Have an attitude of Christian service, following biblical and Christian principles and behavior to students and colleagues. Participate as part of the lower school team in the care and education of the students. Partner with the lead teacher and support classroom management in an active, hands-on STEM environment by helping maintain safe, respectful, and purposeful student engagement. Assist with setup, cleanup, organization, and reset of materials before classes and between lessons. Facilitate small groups, reinforcing instruction and offering guidance, during project-based lessons. Assist the teacher in discipline, redirecting of student attention, and re-teaching. Monitor student safety during building, testing, experimenting and kinesthetic learning opportunities while encouraging proper use of materials. Help meet the children’s needs in all areas – spiritual, physical, emotional, social, and intellectual. Provide for the safety and care of children during working hours and reporting infractions of school rules, unsafe situations, obstacles, etc. Participate in all drills (fire, tornado, lockdowns, etc.). Partner with other lower school personnel such as the school nurse, academic resources team, administrative assistants, librarians, and other teachers as needed throughout the day to support and care for students and classroom activities. Direct all questions and communications from parents to the lead teacher. Provide biblical integration and spiritual nurturing and training to students as appropriate to the role Other tasks as assigned by the lead teacher or lower school principal. These could include supporting other specialist teachers when needed. Qualifications Committed follower of Jesus Christ, reflecting a desire to serve Him and others in work and life. Eagerness to serve in a Christian learning environment, modeling diligence, perseverance, resilience, patience, courage, and Christian discipleship. Understanding of the developmental needs of younger children. Positive attitude and a genuine love for and ability to connect with lower school students. Passion for learning and a willingness to work collaboratively. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to communicate effectively and professionally with students, parents, and faculty/staff. Demonstrated ability to serve with initiative and proactive approaches with strong organization instincts in a materials-heavy classroom environment. Computer skills as applicable for administrative assignments. Bachelor’s degree and teaching experience preferred. STEM-related background not required, but of particular value. Able to lift at least forty pounds as needed for the role.
