We especially encourage applicants with strong a strong background in molecular biology and experience with small animal surgery to apply. Function/Duties of Position Harvesting cochlear tissues, and immunohistochemistry, confocal imaging, PCR and RT-PCR analysis requiring mastery of complex principles and practices. Measurement of blood flow with intravital fluorescence microscopy based on lab established protocol and the measurement of auditory function with auditory brainstem response. Animal husbandry to maintain mouse colonies, and genotyping of transgenic mice. Administration of agents to animals through fine animal surgery (e.g. semicircular canal surgery) Analysis and reporting of data. Write scientific papers and present data at scientific conferences. Additional responsibilities include the maintenance of lab operations such as placing animal orders and detailed record keeping. Will help to train and supervise junior research fellows on a variety of protocols established in the Shi lab (e.g., how to isolate the whole mount of cochlear tissues, cell culture and immunohistochemistry, and real-time PCR etc). Will help to coordinate research activities both independent and collaborative projects for all lab staff. Required Qualifications PhD Knowledge of animal physiology and biology Preferred Qualifications A few years in a laboratory setting, with previous experience with animal physiology, gene transfer, transgenic mouse husbandry, tissue dissection, cell culture and immunohistochemistry and confocal imaging, data collection, basic molecular biological methods (Western blot, PCR), and data analysis and representation of results at scientific meetings. Experience with vascular biology Why apply to OHSU? We are Oregon's only public academic health center. In addition to caring for patients, we lead groundbreaking research.
