Description Posting expires: June 15, 2026 Salary: $51,035.56 - $68,132.47 General Description and Classification Standards: Plans, organizes and supervises the activities of wastewater collection operations or water distribution operations for a crew. (Distribution: Oversee corrective and preventative maintenance on water mains, fire hydrants, valves, and associated equipment, make decisions on job sites, and supervise individual crew members.) Supervises crew duties to include repairing pipe, installing sewers, making decisions on job sites, and supervising crew members. This is an experienced professional capable of carrying out most assignments typical of the position or specialty with limited guidance or review. This level would be considered a promotional level and attainable by any incumbents in a work group who demonstrate the necessary knowledge, ability, and performance. Supervision Received: Most of the work is completed under the direction of the Area Superintendent. Normally receives guidance regarding overall mission, scheduling, problem solving, unusual priorities, etc. May assist in training, orienting, or observing lower-level associates, apprentices, or semi-skilled employees in the group. Essential Duties and Responsibilities: These are typical responsibilities for this position and should not be construed as exclusive or all inclusive. Supervises assigned crew in the completion of sewer main breaks, installation of sewer clean-outs, prevention of sewer spill and other duties related to watershed management. Supervises clearing blockages from sewer mains, cleaning and removing debris from catch basins, and removing water from streets. Ensures effective, safe completion of jobs in compliance with established rules, regulations and policy guidelines. Trains, instructs, and coaches crew in performing repair and maintenance on other systems and structures as required; assignments typically include repairing broken mains, installing clean-outs, and responding to spill events. Ensures daily job record documentation (i.e., work orders) are submitted. Transports crew to work sites; operates heavy equipment. Implements appropriate control for traffic and pedestrian safety. Maintains equipment and tools. Inspects and assesses completed work. Ensures daily job record documentation is submitted for SOM system update. Provides input for crew members performance evaluations and disciplinary actions. Answers questions and provides information to the public; demonstrates diplomatic customer service. Responds to phone calls and emails. Uses expertise to adjust methods to accommodate unforeseen site conditions. Assists with hands-on training of staff and new hires. May perform other duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Education and Experience – High school diploma, or equivalent. Four (4) years of construction or maintenance experience in wastewater collection system. Licensures and Certifications – Valid Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Class A; Wastewater Collection System Operator License. Preferred Requirements – Prior supervisory experience. Work Environment: Required physical, lifting, and sensory capabilities are requirements to perform the job successfully. Typical environmental conditions associated with job. Lifting Requirements: Sedentary work : Exerting up to 10 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body. Light work : Exerting up to 20 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 10 pounds of force to move objects. Medium work : Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 30 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects. Heavy work : Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
